Re: Maxillary Expansion (DOME) to enable effective CPAP treatment?

1. Why would breathing from my mouth instead of from my nose render CPAP ineffective? Can anyone point me to literature backing this up? 2. Before I commit to surgery, I want to be sure that breathing from my nose during sleep will actually help me feel better. To test this, I am looking into using...

Re: Six year nightmare UARS??

As someone who has had a lot of CPAP surgery, I have strong opinions on both the pros and cons. Think about it this way: The dream of surgery is getting a permanent significant improvement in your sleep. This is obviously a super-huge positive outcome and worth a lot of risk. The reality of surgery ...

Re: 11 Years and almost no Improvement

Hi, sorry to hear about your difficulties. There are many other people who, like you, have low numbers and bad sleep. The only reason I'm sure that I have UARS is that ASV machine, and surgeries to expand my airway, have all helped me to sleep better. If I didn't have UARS, then ASV wouldn't cause m...

Tapering off rx sleep meds with apnea

Hi. Over my 15 years of sleep apnea (decently treated last 8 years by ASV machine and several surgeries), I have become increasingly dependent on Rx sleep meds such as zolpidem (ambien). When my UARS was untreated, the meds helped me fall asleep even though bedtime was a time of anxiety because my b...

Improving sleep quality with tracking devices like Oura?

Hi all. I posted here a bit back in 2011-2013 when I was actively working on my sleep (my intro/details thread: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t85661/UARS-low-numbers-bad-sleep-MMA-now-on-CPAP.html ). Summary is, I have UARS (low AHI but poor sleep), have had a number of surgeries (MMA & turbinec...

Re: Advice on debugging a ResMed Power Station II?

FYI, the issue was the battery being dead because of not recharging it every month. Expensive mistake.

Re: Sleeping with a partner who wears CPAP

If the CPAP makes their partner sleep poorly, then the same thing is being lost on the other side of the bed. If sleep is important, it is important for both partners. Being woken up by noise is not as bad as being woken up by not breathing, but it still has a huge impact on sleep and all the thing...

Re: Sleeping with a partner who wears CPAP

I know I posted about this near the beginning of the thread but it bears repeating in light of the recent posts: I wanted to chime as someone who is more noise sensitive than the average person and has been that way for as long as I can remember. By the way, noises that don't bother alot of people ...

Re: Advice for troubleshooting when CPAP stops being effective?

The opening in the elbow is unaffected - I only glued the part of the elbow that inserts into the tube, so that it can't come on or off, shouldn't change airflow (except not having the *((*) hose pull off in the middle of the night, which was why I glued it). And I tried an unglued elbow/tube last n...

Re: Do I even have UARS?

It looks like mixed apnea, 11 centrals and 9 hypnopneas / hour is pretty significant. You say that you think the centrals were caused by the higher elevation, which is definitely possible, but it is not something that you can know easily from your subjective experience. We can't track our own breath...

Advice for troubleshooting when CPAP stops being effective?

Hey all, I was active here a few years ago while trying to get a working treatment. Recap: I have UARS; low AHI but poor quality sleep; spent ~10 years trying different things, not being sure if I had apnea, getting MMA surgery, tonsillectomy, turbinate reduction, trying dental device, trying an old...

Re: Advice on debugging a ResMed Power Station II?

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a replacement cord overnight, but got the same result today when it arrived. The blinking light is blue, BTW, not green - it's the DC status/discharge light. I always used to have a multimeter when I was younger but I don't think I have one anymore, let's see....nope....

Advice on debugging a ResMed Power Station II?

Hey all, I have a ResMed Power Station II that I used last year during a week long camping trip (with access to power during the day to charge), to power my S9 Adapt SV, it worked great. Yesterday I was going on a one day trip, I charged it, the lights indicated charging and full, but it wouldn't po...

Re: Brown crust around mouth in morning, under face mask

I have been seen by a number of ENTs, including for GERD, and had an RF surgery for it, have also been on prilosec some of the time. I've had GERD for 10-15 years, and nothing like this has ever happened before. But I did include it in case it was related - any ideas on exactly how?

Brown crust around mouth in morning, under face mask

Howdy all. Haven't been here in awhile as my ASV is working well. Something weird happened this morning - when I woke up and took off my mask, I had a blackish-browish-reddish crust around my mouth, centered at the corners. The same color was on my tongue as well. This has never happened before. I w...
