Airing raised $928,778 from 9,338 people - it's done

Post by yaconsult » Sat Jul 04, 2015 11:48 am

Update: Well, the campaign is over and $928,778 was raised from 9,338 people. I wish all those hopeful funders the best of luck, but my advice to them would be to either get or keep using a good auto cpap machine until your Airings arrive in the mail and are successfully able to treat your sleep apnea!

The current generation of cpap machines and masks and pillows work very well. Do NOT wait for an Airing to start or continue your cpap journey.

======================================================================================================
And it has 12 days left to go in the campaign. The estimated delivery date is July 2017. I feel sad for these folks.

In case you missed the previous posts here on this pie-in-the-sky micro-cpap system, It's a tiny cpap system where the whole device fits under the nose. You use it for one night and then throw it away. No, I'm not kidding!

They anticipate selling the production Airing units for $3 each so total cost would be $3 per night which would come to $1,095 per year. A top of the line cpap machine from cpap.com like the AirSense 10 for $883, even if it only lasted 5 years, would result in a nightly cost of 48 cents or $176 per year. But, of course, they last longer than 5 years for most people.

This is the dream that they are selling to desperate people: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/airi ... micro-cpap

What does the success of this campaign tell us? Besides that there are going to be lots of disappointed people out there. People who need to be on cpap or need to optimize/improve their cpap therapy.

It makes me sad to read some of the comments there, like:
I can’t wait for this to come out I hate my current CPAP machine.
People are already starting to ask some of the hard questions in the comment thread: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/airi ... #/comments

The breakdown of investors is fascinating (some options were only available for a limited amount of time):
  • 13 people paid $50 for a 21 day supply
    572 people paid $95 for a 45 day supply
    13 people paid $50 for a 21 day supply
    794 people paid $70 for a 30 day supply
    2000 people paid $135 for a 90 day supply
    41 people paid $155 for a 90 day supply
    220 people paid $199 for a 120 day supply
    80 people paid $270 for a 180 day supply
Some people paid money without getting any devices:
  • 5 people paid $400 to skype with the inventor
98 people paid $10 to have their name listed on Airing's website
404 people paid $25 to be put on a list of people to be contacted when Airing is available
34 people paid $500 to become members of a Research Panel
8 people paid $1,000 to be invited to the first Airing Event
The more cynical among us would note that crowdfunding scams have become a semi-legal way of stealing lots of money: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2015/0 ... nce-scams/

Crowdfunding provides absolutely no guarantees that you will ever get anything at all for your money. There is no way to get your money back - it is legally considered a "donation". Credit card companies won't help because you agreed to the terms when you clicked the button. The crowdfunding site won't do anything because they took their cut off the top and if they did do anything, it might set a precedent.

I don't feel sorry for human sheep, maybe real sheep a little, they don't ask to be fleeced, or become standing rib roasts. Actually I don't eat them, I'm a cow, pig, chicken type.

The same fools that get taken, are just the low end of the food chain, they would be the first ones to be unsuccessful in XPAP treatment.

Some must be fools so others can get by without working.

I think it reflects how desperate so many people are because they haven't figured out CPAP treatment yet, a lot are probably seriously sleep-deprived, and it is sad that someone will take money from such people. Maybe he WILL come up with the equipment he is promising and it will improve treatment for all of us, but he's not getting a penny from me.

I notice they only reply to people having problems posting or donating.

This stuff is like going to a casino - most of your money is going into someone else's pocket so you can dream of great riches.

We all are born not being able to walk, some never evolve to be able to stand on their own two feet. Thank goodness we have our government to rearrange our resources, however inefficient they are.

Yes, some are not born stupid, but many pick it up easily. Maybe some day they will make a pill to correct it. Maybe by crowd funding. Jim

It will be at least two years before any results will be available.
Plenty of time to "disappear" with all the loot.

Jim,

I am curious, have you led a "stupid free" life? If you have, you're the first human being I know of who has.

No, I wasn't born in a "Stupid Free Zone", Like the founders of our country, I did learn to stand on my own, I'm not a Sheeple laying on my side, waiting for the government to give me something I didn't earn.

We all make mistakes, but only a few of us learn from them. Jim

3L? Maybe it's not enough.
