Facial and scalp impressions from headgear

Post by dbillow » Sat Jul 04, 2015 9:18 am

I am bald and use a Resmed Quattro FX full nose and mouth mask and headgear. I also use Resmed mask liners to eliminate the infamous "mask farting". Ever since I started using this gear, I've struggled with the head gear causing facial impressions on my face and scalp that take hours to completely fade away the next day. I also get red marks on the bridge of my nose. This causes embarrassing discussions at morning meetings for me. So over the last year or so I've developed a technique of using a thin Under Armour skull cap combined with sterilized non absorbent wound pads from CVS Pharmacy to act as a buffer from the head gear. It's a total pain in the ass each night, and looks absolutely ridiculous on me but it does help, though nothing completely prevents the morning skin impressions. I've tried different tightness settings with the Velcro on the headgear, but it has to be tight enough to cause the impressions or I get leakage from the mask at night.

So based on that, has anyone out there experienced this problem and if so, how did you deal with it? I hope there's other mask products out there that have better headgear to prevent this problem from occurring.

All input is welcome.

Thanks!

Check out http://www.padacheek.com/. I use their strap covers and they greatly reduce my face marks. The ones that are left fade quickly. The owner is a member here and works to find solutions for our problems.

Obviously you have the mask too tight. If you feel you must have it that tight, you need to try mask and/or strap liners from padacheek.com.
Most masks need air to float on your face..too tight=no air=face marks.

It took me about 3 years to find the right mask for me. Once you get the right mask it is all down hill.

I also use the QFX and my pressures go up to 25 each night. Because of this, I have to wear my mask very snug. This stretches my headgear out over my head. I had to come up with a different set up. I tried the blue mesh soft cap by Respironics https://www.cpap.com/productpage/softca ... onics.html. This has been a game-changer for me. I can snug up my mask without over-tightening, knowing that my mask will be very stable on my face withstanding my high pressure swings. I also use headgear pads. In the morning, I have "dents" which go away within the first hour of my day. No more nose sores or strap marks!

I tried the soft cap out of desperation. I liked it so much that I asked my DME to start sending me that one instead of the headgear that is packaged with the mask. No problem! I have 3; one for each mask I use (QFX, F10 and FitLife). The DME just replaces the accompanying headgear with the soft cap; no additional cost.

So you use the mask as the headgear?
