Does Sleepyhead work on a Windows 8.1 Computer? Windows XP?

Post by MarylandCPAPer » Fri Jul 03, 2015 9:07 pm

I have downloaded Sleepyhead. I tried to open an exe file and it says I am missing an MSV file. The Sleepyhead web site where I got the software says that you need a Microsoft 2010 redistributable package when you are missing an MSV***. dll file. I tried downloading the Microsoft 2010 software, but it says i already have the software in a more recent version. I got my computer less than a year ago with Windows 8.1 installed and do not want to install a 2010 version of a Microsoft program in which I also have a much more recent version.

I also have a computer that runs windows XP. Would I be better off using it? I don't have a printer hooked to it anymore and it is SLOWWWWWW, but it still works.

I have tried for 3 nights to get Sleepyhead to work on Windows 8.1 and either the new CPAP machine has made me totally stupid or it doesn't work on 8.1. I see that people are using it on Windows 7 and 8 with no problem, evidently.

Thanks for any help.

On the sleepyhead download page there is a note...

Missing DLL files?
If you get a message something like "MSVCR120.dll is missing," you need to install the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package" available at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=40784

Explanation: Some versions of Windows do not have all the necessary files. These files need to be installed with Microsoft's installer, at the link above. The missing files may not always be "MSVCR120.dll", but it will be something similar starting with "MSV" and ending with ".dll".

Sleepyhead USES the Visual C++ 2010 package even if you have a newer version on the computer.

Win8.1 is supported but you really need to watch the other warning....

Would SH work on a Windows XP computer?

I hesitate to install the 2010 program over a more recent version of the same program on my Windows 8.1 computer. I don't know what the program does that may interfere with other programs on my Windows 8.1 computer.

Thanks for your help!

Yes but that version of OS is a security hazard waiting to happen.

It doesn't replace a newer version. It provides a version you don't have which is why you are getting the error. Other software on your Win8.1 box will use the version they need.
