AHI index and oxygen saturation
AHI index and oxygen saturation
I was just reading about AHI and it said apnea must be 10 seconds with decrease in oxygen. My home study showed oxygen 100%. So no decrease. It also showed 162 hypopopneas and 37 Apneas. I'm classified moderate with 22 per hour. If I had no decrease in blood oxygen how is my test accurate. Is this possible.
Diagnosed after home study with 37 obstructive Apneas. Indexed at 22 Per hour. Moderate Apnea. Have suffered migraines and waking up stiff and tired and at times with muscle spasms.
Re: AHI index and oxygen saturation
Sounds like your home study program is flawed. Time to go to a real sleep study, or wait until you climb out of De-Nile then go. Jim

Re: AHI index and oxygen saturation
There doesn't need to be a desat for an apnea to happen or for you to 'have' apnea. I think they may not have worded things well, maybe meant either/or, but you don't have to desat to have apnea.

Re: AHI index and oxygen saturation
I think it is very unusual for anyone to have 100% saturation on a pulse ox device for any extended period, especially while asleep.
I would question the accuracy of the pulse ox and I absolutely would want a complete detailed copy of the sleep report including all the graphs. The suggestion of 100% saturation throughout the test would make me question the entire experience.

Ty. I will ask for the full documentation. I got one sheet with description of apnea. I an wondering if it was flawed too. Also I have gel coating on nails and they said that didn't matter.
