Newbie with CPAP mask problems

Post by mrmerck » Thu Jul 02, 2015 8:01 pm

Background info:
51 year Old Male
Cpap: Resmed Airsense 10
Mask: Mirage Quatro
Setting : 12 ( I think)

Did the sleep study and found I was having apneas along with restless leg. Was prescribed a CPAP machine with the above mask approximately 3 months ago. Initial problems were minor, just a indentation between my eyes and home health sent me a nasal pillow that quickly fixed that.

I was sleeping better and felt far more rested. After the initial 3 months I got a call saying it was time to renew components of mask and they sent me a new liner for mask and some filters for machine. Then I made the BIG MISTAKE. I tossed the old liner in the trash and replaced it with the new one.

Night one with the new liner in the mask was a nightmare. Terrible mask leaks with air rushing into my eyes and creating a disturbing noise that awoke my wife. First instinct was to make sure I`d installed the liner properly. Nothing wrong .

Last week I took the Machine and mask into the technician who is works at the sleep doctor. He made some adjustments to how I was wearing the mask( straps, etc) and off I went. Still no dice. We`ve gone on vacation for a week since the visit to the tech guy and for the past 7 days I`ve attempted to sleep without the mask. The leaks were just unbearable.

Suggestions?

Try a new mask?
I`ve read they make something that goes on the face and buffers between the face and mask. Is this worth a try?
Why would this work for 3 months and then fail with a new part. BTW, the tech guy said the liner and mask were fine.

Thanks for any guidance:-)

That mask is very popular, but... there is a video out called "taming the Quattro". If you have to put out a video, then that outta tell you all you need to know about the mask. The liner you are referring to is called: padacheek liners at padacheek.com. They work great for most folks... leak-wise. Most folks go thru several masks before they find one that is comfortable and doesn't leak. I use the Resmed Airfit F10. It is new, lightweight, no forehead piece and very popular. Right now, I'm back to using my Total Face mask due to a bump on my nose. As you see, most folks eventually get a "backup" mask.
