Amara View Mask?

Post by Jewel » Thu Jul 02, 2015 2:35 pm

I had an appointment today to review the trial data with my sleep doc and get a prescription for an APAP (woohoo). I told him I'm still having issues with the fit of the full face mask I've been using (pressure on bridge of nose, etc.) and he said that a new mask had just been released recently by Respironics.

Has anyone had a chance yet to try out the new Amara View mask? My doc had recommended it so I will hopefully get a chance to try it in a week or so.

I saw the thread Squid posted, but a lot of folks were in the process of either getting the mask or they just got it. It's been a couple of weeks now. What's the verdict on the Amara mask? What are the pros and cons?

I guess the mask is not very popular.

Cpap.com doesn't have the mask yet and they expect it by the 16th of this month, after that give it a few weeks and I expect that will get some reviews then.

This is the only place I found that has the user manual for the Amara View.

I picked up my Amara view yesterday and slept the best I have in a year. Slight leaking on the bottom of cushion will make minor adjustments. When Ibwent to pick it up yesterday a representTive from the Co was there and was very helpful fitting it to me. Great mask less contact with your face. No marks on my cheeks

I just got mine today from cpap.com. Will try it in a couple of days, don't want to mess with it tonight, got to get up early for cataract surgery in the morning so I want a good nights sleep with my regular mask. This will be the end of it, did the other eye four weeks ago.

Keep this thread going please. Next annual appt. with sleep clinic and DME is early August. I am interesting in this mask, especially if it has leak problems.

I'm hoping to test the mask next week. My RT says that it can be a great mask for some people, but others are reporting a lot of annoying leaks. As leaks are one of the issues I'm struggling with, I hope that's not the case with this mask as I'd love one that doesn't put a lot of pressure on the bridge of my nose.

UPDATE
2nd night with Amara view. Checked my SD card this morning. My pressure is 16/9. My pressure never got above 13 because TOO MANY LEAKS! I feel bad cause I like the mask but my RT says it is rendering ineffective therapy
Guess I'll go back to Quatro FX my ol standby

I just switched to this mask because the design sounded great. I was using an Airfit F10 previously. I tend to sleep mostly on my side. Here are my observations:
-I can wear my reading glasses with no interference. It's much better than the F10 or any other full face mask in that regard.
-I find the mask to be more comfortable than the F10. For me it gets a better seal with less tension on the straps. It has less contact area on the face.
-It's much less claustrophobic than other full face masks I've tried.
-The headgear is more comfortable as it has a greater contact area creating less pressure. My F10 straps left indentations in the back of my neck and on top of my head. This did not occur with the Amara View. There seems to be more padding in the Amara headgear as well.
-My F10 leak rate was running ~ 8L/min. It has dropped to less than 5L/min with the Amara View so far. Need more time to confirm this improvement.
-Not sure if it's a result of the mask, by my events/hour have dropped in the first few nights from ~1.2 average to 0.2 average. Need more nights to confirm this as a real improvement.
-The nose seal slightly irritated the underside of my nose. I may be sensitive in this area as I couldn't stand nasal pillows due to nostril irritation. I can live with this level of irritation though on the Amaa View.
-I'm not a big fan of the plastic attachment clips or the quick disconnect on the tube. I find the F10 to be more easily removeable, but I think I can adapt to the Amara.

The cpap tech at my sleep clinic just recommended I come out and take a look at the Amara View mask because of the difficulties I've been having with the Simplus FFM. She said that only two people had done sleep studies with it, but they both loved it.

Night one with a CPAP==love the Amara View compared with Quattro Air I had at sleep study. And I don't feel like an alien wearing it.
