S9 Autoset or AirSense 10?

Post by rockncountry101 » Tue Jun 30, 2015 6:47 pm

I ask because I read this article:

http://www.easybreathe.com/blog/looking ... ps-market/

I thought the 10 replaced the S9. And also regarding the 10, should I being a man actually go with the "for her" model since it has an extra algorithm and can measure RERAs?

Thanks.

Lots of discussion on this. If you do not have RERAs, you could use either machine. The S9 has some advantages - the humidifier is easier to manage, IMHO, if you have vision problems. They have discontinued manufacturer of S9, but parts will be available for another 7 years, so if you chose an S9, not a problem.

The advantage of the Airsense For Her is there are 3 separate algorithms - the For Her being an addition. I can't tell you much about it because my new machine was a clunker and I'm waiting for my replacement (I was given a loaner and Respironics auto algorithm doesn't work for me - had to switch to straight pressure). I feel kindof a harbinger of doom for Cpap machines because my used machine didn't work right either. In any case, it's up to you - if you never use the For Her algorithm, you haven't wasted any money - because it has all three. If you get the regular Airsense auto model, then you don't have the option to see if the For Her algorithm might work better for you.

A comparison between the two from someone who has used both of them (TangleHose):

I have never used the Airsense 10 (or in my case the Aircurve 10 equiv of my S9 VPAP) so I would have to defer. Though... I like the ability to separate the Humidifier.

I recently specified and received an S9 Autoset as my first apap machine, after having a bare-bones, Respironics "brick" cpap. (non-data capable) I specified the 9autoset model over the Airsense10 due to the newness of the 10's and reading some sporadic reports of glitches in their software. I don't like the idea of automatic wireless data transfers either. I figured the 9's have a long, proven track record, that's good enough reason for me. I may try to pick up a couple more S9's as back-ups/spares. I love this machine !

I have been using an S9 Auto for over 5 years and changed to an Airsense 10 Auto about a week ago. Had to change mask as well because F&P Zest Nasal mask changed the foam insert to a smaller form size and the mask body pressed on my nose all the time. I changed to an F&P Eson Nasal mask and it is good for me.

Anyway my average AHI for each night has dropped from 3.5 to 1.0 and I am sleeping really well from the first night with few disruptions. Without the APAP I have an AHI of 46. I have not resolved what has caused the change in AHI but I am very happy with the results. Maybe the new mask is better for me or it could be some improvements in the software of the AIrsense10. I also had trouble with the heated hose with the S9 humidifier with great difficulty trying to get rid of water build up. The heated hose with the Airsense 10 Auto was not a problem from the outset.

I do agree that the display on the Airsense 10 is too dim at night to read easily, at least for my older eyes, but I need glasses to read the smaller characters anyway. I just wait until the morning to see the results in the light. There is an auto-ramp function on the Airsense10 Auto that is supposed to not ramp pressure until it detects that you are asleep. I found that this did not work so went to manual ramp delay which I sometimes have to reset until I drop off to sleep, and this is what I did with the S9 anyway.

Overall the Airsense10 Auto has been a great purchase for me.
