The Ultimate Chin Strap

Post by stcrim » Tue Jun 30, 2015 10:10 am

I am struggling to make this all work. I have several nose pillows and masks and one full face mask. I like the pillows especially the P10 but they don't really work for me. My mouth drops open and the rest is history. I have taped a number of times and that helps but it's also a pain in the morning even using 3M micropore tape. Sometimes I can exhale right past the tape.

What is the experience with The Ultimate Chin Strap? Does it really help mouth breathers? Based on watching the videos it looks like it would be real easy to breathe right past it. Any thoughts?

Have you tried a soft cervical collar to keep your head up, your airway more open and help with mouth leaks?

Before I started using my FF mask I tried several chinstraps. The only one that actually worked for me was the papcap. Even after using that for a while, I decided the FF mask was more comfortable .

I'm looking at hybrid masks to address any mouth breathing issues. Not as large as most full face masks.

That ultimate chin strap is a beast! I'm using the Ruby chin strap and it's very comfortable. Have you tried this sort of thing; that is, not having a mouth covering but just the chin strap?

I am pretty new to all this in that I have been on an APAP for about 6 weeks. The first few days were great - after that it has been a real struggle. I assume the first few days were a real relief after 20 years of hell. My very first day my AHI was 14.5 but I still felt great - only got up once to pee. Now my AHI bounces between 3 and 9 but I don't feel as good as I did the first week.

How exactly does someone benefit for a soft cervical collar and are they hot?

It holds your neck in the best position for air flow through the airway. I wear one to reduce the required CPAP pressure. http://doctorstevenpark.com/can-a-neck- ... leep-apnea (Don't expect it to be a cure.)

Some people claim it keeps their mouth from opening. That never worked for me, so I wear an Innomed Hybrid mask along with a soft spinal collar.

That's up to you and how you choose to accept things.

I live in a subtropical climate and I don't like to be hot in the bed. I set the A/C to 74 in the bedroom and the collar does not bother me.

Of course I go in with the attitude that the collar is a blessing that is improving my health. If you consider it a bother, you will probably fail.

Same here regarding the Ruby. I think our host CPAP.com still sells it.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Another vote for the Ruby Red, although I strongly recommend the adjustable velcro model, not the S, M, L sizes, as they do stretch out over time.
