Sores on one nostril only - Remzzz nasal pillow liners?
Hey all.
So things have been cruising along alright, except this one nagging issue. I keep getting a recurring sore on the inner corner of my left nostril. It's as if even the extra-small pillows are too large for that side, and are trying to stretch my nose - it keeps breaking open. I accidentally went on vacation and forgot the cpap for several nights, and that's the only time the sore has healed fully. Lanolin is helping keep it soft, but not healed. And it HURTS like all get out when I first put that mask on at night. Sure I could go a different mask route, but I'm well after the trial period for insurance, and frankly don't have the $ to buy new and I didn't like the other masks I tried during the sleep study - I like the small pillows. I also want to heal my nose.
So. Has anyone tried the RemZzzz for nasal pillows? Do you think it'll help? Make things better/worse? Right now it feels as if the silicone is part of the issue, but I'm not entirely sure. Initially, I was getting little zit like things from the masks. I even switched pillows, and that made it worse. Washing a fresh pillow made it better. I kinda think it's the chemicals that are on the silicone initially - maybe? because now that the current pillows are a few months old, and after several soakings, no more zit things. -- Oh, and I also got those after ONE night of the titration study, from where the nasal mask they had me wear touched me, so it's not just the pillows.
Thanks in advance for any and all help and advice!

Just for grins, check the pillow for any little sharp or inconsistent ridges. Could be a tiny defect in mfg that is causing it. I've had a more minor issue..maybe a bad batch?

Awesome advice. Just looked it over. Nothing that I can see readily. Darn, that would have been easy, because they sent me a ton of extra pillow when I whined . Maybe I'll soak a new pillow today (after examining that closely too) and try it tonight.

I couldn't see the defect, either...but I could sure FEEL it! Not sure if it would be something an xacto knife could fix without compromising the rest of the mask...I think I wound up just putting the offender to the side.

Re: Sores on one nostril only - Remzzz nasal pillow liners?
Thanks again!
I did put the "bad" one out, got a new one, soaked it (and rinsed, and air dried) but the pain was just unbearable. I mean, the sore is just being reopened every night and last night I could not fall asleep with my nose like that.
So I did something "wrong". I took off the mask and fell asleep without it.
However, I did leave my finger-tip pulse-ox on, and the results convinced me that I have *got* to fix this mask issue. This is NOT ok, I need to breathe at night:

Oh! I did order the RemZzz nasal pillow liners, they should be here soon. And I'm keeping the wound clean and soft during the day.

I'd suggest using neosporin on that, not gobs, just a bit, and a bigger pillow, small or medium.WildMtnHoney wrote:Thanks again!

Will the neosporin interact with the mask? I am using that during the day some, in part because I have the sort with pain relief. Did you know nasal mucus is salty? I bet you did. Imagine allergies + this open sore. It hasn't been fun.
The larger pillows in the past made me feel suffocated (even without ramp, which admittedly was also part of the problem), but I'll try again, for sure! Thanks.

it didn't with me when I was getting used to the p10.WildMtnHoney wrote:Will the neosporin interact with the mask? larger pillows = LESS suffocation feelings, because they allow more airflow in and out of your nose.
I started trying mediums, and moved to large because the mediums made me feel like my nose was partially stopped up.

Re: Sores on one nostril only - Remzzz nasal pillow liners?
While that makes some sense to me, it was a bit different, I think, for me. It felt as though, with the smalls, and worse with the mediums, that the opening of "outer" cones were resting on the very outer edges of my nares, and inner cones were collapsing forward, in toward the nares which caused everything to be closed up. I think I'm going to try on my extra-small in a mirror in a minute, though, and see if I can get a pic of how it's fitting. I think it's fitting correctly, but outside perspective is a wonderful thing.palerider wrote:larger pillows = LESS suffocation feelings, because they allow more airflow in and out of your nose.

I honestly have never looked at the way the pillows fit... but that looks like it's trying to go into your nostrils, not onto... ???

You're right PR, but those are the ExSmall that I'm used to wearing. What I'm looking at is this: In the pics from ResMed of the P10, the dude always no space between the outer ridges and the rims of his nares. I've got a whole lot of "cone" still sticking out before the outer ridges of these extra smalls would hit my nares. So with an even *bigger* pillow, it just gets worse. Does that start to make sense?

Re: Sores on one nostril only - Remzzz nasal pillow liners?
uh, not really? it looks like the larger diameter of the pillow is not large enough to fit comfortably outside your nostril, and may be pushing up into it... and thus causing a pressure sore on the inside... but only you can tell which size feels most comfortable.WildMtnHoney wrote:You're right PR, but those are the ExSmall that I'm used to wearing.
