Yes you can...but...WHY?Corky21 wrote:I just got my Philips CPAP three days ago. Can I raise the pressure. There is a button to lower, but not sure if it also raises. Doctor set 8 to 14!!

Newbie question
I don't feel like the air is on, bit it is. Was wondering if higher pressure would bring better results
Re: Newbie question
Better results than what? Have you looked at your data to see what the results are at your current pressures?Corky21 wrote:I don't feel like the air is on, bit it is. Was wondering if higher pressure would bring better results

Re: Corky1121
No. I am on day 5 and I still can't access results on sleepmapper. They said to call again in two days. I was wondering if the lower pressure would give less results. I am moderate apnea and have 8 to 14 setting. I still wake up feeling like I haven't slept. The tech said I should feel better pretty soon and I'm not.
Re: Corky1121
What mask do you use?

Re: Corky1121
If your machine pressure is set to a range of 8 to 14, then you have an APAP machine and you can look at data on the machine's screen. Use the link in my signature box to the video tutorials -- find your machine and watch the video on how to access the clinical menu. You can change settings on your machine that will allow you to see your AHI and leak information easily. You shouldn't need to call anyone for this information.Guest wrote:No. I am on day 5 and I still can't access results on sleepmapper. They said to call again in two days. And you shouldn't increase the pressure setting(s) unless there is some basis for doing so. It is not the case that lower pressure always gives less results, or that higher pressure always gives better results. Pressure has to do with your anatomy and what it takes to keep your airway open -- it does not have to do with how severe your apnea is (mild, moderate or severe) -- severity refers only to frequency of events or AHI.

Re: Corky1121
Thank you. I called my rep and he told me this exact info. I checked this morning and my AHI was 1.7. He said it should always be less than 5. So I leaned how to check that. Also the leaks show. What is the difference in CPAP and APAP and how does the doctor decide what is best?
Re: Corky1121
I have another question. How come my mouth is really dry and uncomfortable when I awake during the night and in the morning. Is it because my mouth is opening and the air is escaping and drying me out. I ordered a chin strap. Maybe that will help.
Re: Corky1121
I found the answer to the different machines. I guess APAP is better since it adjusts as you need it. This site is full of info and I have just joined and started going through some posts. Thank you for your help.
Re: Corky1121
What machine are you using? Does it have a built-in or attached humidifier? That is what you need to reduce dryness in your airway.Corky1121 wrote:I have another question. I don't always walk around the house in socks, but when I do, I find all the wet spots on the floor.
Re: Corky1121
I have Respironics auto a flex with heated humidifier, but I use nasal mask. I wonder if my Mouth is opening and air coming out is drying.
Diagnosed after home study with 37 obstructive Apneas. Indexed at 22 Per hour. Moderate Apnea. Have suffered migraines and waking up stiff and tired and at times with muscle spasms.
Re: Corky1121
Very likely. Chin straps don't always work and don't keep lips closed. Why not try various FFM's and see if you find something you like?

Ty Julie. I will order a full face mask as well. It feels horrible when it wakes me middle of night. A sip of water helps.
Also I did this first post wrong. I have no title. Lol. I think I've got it now.
