cpap newbie and confused

Post by molloy » Sun Jun 28, 2015 2:00 pm

Hello I have a Wisp nasal mask and I have been sleeping with my mouth closed however it doesn't seem to be very affective, even though it's set at 10. Last night I tried opening my mouth and I really felt it for the first time. I have significant sleep apnea and never felt any difference till last night. Is it right or wrong to open or close your mouth, thank you

molloy, with the Wisp (a nasal mask) you absolutely need to keep your mouth closed so the therapy air doesn't escape out of your mouth instead of going into your airway which is what it's supposed to do so that your airway can stay open for breathing.

Apart from last night, if you've been keeping your mouth closed and you haven't felt like your therapy is effective it's time to start examining what's going on. First, fill in your equipment -- exact make and model of your machine. If you have a machine that records therapy data then load SleepyHead software and let's see what's going on. You need to know if your machine is effectively controlling your apnea and if it's not, what can be done.

Welcome to the forum.
