More Tired Now than when I started CPAP a Year Ago.
I'm 41 years old and started therapy last summer. I was excited. But now I am waking up pretty much EVERY SINGLE DAY tired as f--k and not refreshed from sleep when it USED TO be 3 or 4 days a week. This is SHIT. I didn't get on this treatment to make me worse!
What is going on? Do I have Chronic Fatigue too or something from years of OSA not being treated? Are my hormones or T levels f--ked up?
Did I spill water in the machine and it's not blowing the right pressure? How can I test it to make sure? Do I need to go to the doctor and get another sleep test to re-check my pressure titration? Do I have some weird disease that makes me tired or like I said is my chemicals and hormones and testosterone are ruined for over 10 years of not getting this treated? (I say weird because the doctors say I'm healthy as a horse. No problems whatsoever...)
But then, WHY would I be feeling MORE tired every day?
That defeats the purpose of this shit. I'm STILL waking up multiple times a night having to pee just like before I started therapy. I thought by now I was supposed to fucking sleep through the night!!! I just want to be able to get up every day and goddamn function like a normal fucking human being. Yes, I'm pissed because my life is slipping away and I don't have the energy to do shit but lie in bed all day. I'm thinking of going back to sleeping without the CPAP thinking that maybe the setting is wrong or the machine is broke and actually DEPRIVING me of oxygen. The read doesn't say anything of the sort. My AHI is like 1.5 or 2 a week. No Large leak. I downloaded the friggen sleepyhead but I'm too tired to figure out how to get it to work with my machine data.
This sucks.

Have your hose & mask been changed lately? What are your pressure settings?
I understand how you feel. I have gone back to my docotr's office complaining of this same thing. I ended up with a sleep study & day sleep study. See if I have a secondary sleep disorder.
I am hoping to see if this helps. I will be going back into the doctor's office this next week to see what is going on.

How does the data look in sleepyhead? That's how we know if the therapy is being effective and if we are having issues that need to be worked on.

Thanks for Most of your support. Sorry if I offended someone with trying to let you know how I'm feeling and how frustrating it is.
Despite that, ya. I have my machine data but have no ability to convert it to sleephead so I don't know what it's saying. I slept without the mast last night, and I don't know now if I want to go back or not. I will have to see.

@ Avi123 while yes Jimmycrackhorn did use a little colorful language he wasn't using it frivolously. He was using it to convey his deep frustration, a frustration that I'm sure all of us have experienced. To try and censor him for his choice of words when there clearly was no intent to offend is IMHO silly. This like all support groups should be a safe space to express not only issues we have with CPAP and sleep apnea but our feelings regarding these issues.avi123 wrote:the above post by Jimmycrackhorn should be deleted b/c of language. it was already reported to the administrator.
Should we tolerate the pissing matches that some of these threads turn into? No. Should we be understanding when one of us has a particular bad experience and expresses that with less than couth language? Yes. To do otherwise invalidates the purpose of a support group.

Re: More Tired Now than when I started CPAP a Year Ago.
Sleepyhead will read the data right off the memory card. All you need to do is unzip sleepyhead and start it. It can read in all the data that is on the card. There are many things that could be causing your therapy to be less effective than it should be. The only way to know is to take a closeup look at what the machine records.Jimmycrackhorn wrote:Thanks for Most of your support. Let us know if you need help getting the software working and/or importing your data from the card. When you're ready, you can post the detailed charts online at someplace like imgur and link to them in your posts.

Ok no, my friend has a card reader, I don't. I used his and emailed myself the files from the card and figured I could open them, but I havent figured that part out yet and frankly most days I'm a bit too tired to try and figure out what to do.
What Is SOMEWHAT of a life saver is that If I can eat a big meal and then meditate mid day to the point of falling into what I THINK is stage 1 sleep, where I might even catch myself snoring really fast, I can sometimes snap out of the BRUTAL tiredness to having a decent amount of energy. This can be anywhere from a 20 minute rest to over an hour, but it still sucks.
LAST NIGHT I didn't sleep with my mask, but I noticed I was having dreams, something that doesn't seem to happen when I have the mask on as much. So to me that signifies that I was getting deeper sleep than on the machine. So now I have to wonder if I have to get another sleep test set up to see if the settings are correct, or like I said, is there even a way to TEST MY MACHINE to see if the pressure it is putting out is actually CORRECT (like the blower I mean...)?
Thanks for all your help and kind words, Everyone.

Jimmycrackcorn,
CPAP doesn't solve all problems : as you insinuated: your problems may not be just OSA ( assuming that you had an in clinic sleep test that showed OSA). If you haven't already - you need to see your internist and have a complete workup done. You might very well have low levels of important vitamins, minerals, thyroid hormones etc. Or even possibly Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Not every case of fatigue ( maybe most) is due ( at least exclusively) to OSA. See your MD!

Re: More Tired Now than when I started CPAP a Year Ago.
As I said above, I think, I went to the doctors, my workup is normal. He said I'm as healthy as a horse and then implied I seek a psychiatrist. From what I have read and heard on the internet, and from the people I have talked to in Chicago, Doctors here will be more quick to suggest you have some mental problem before delving into the concept of Chronic Fatigue. The concept is "I don't know what's wrong with you so you must have mental problems." My only option would be to pay out of pocket to see a Naturopath or Integrative Medicine Doctor, because I certainly don't have any mental issues I need to see a professional to work out.jagzoo wrote:Jimmycrackcorn,

Re: More Tired Now than when I started CPAP a Year Ago.
Question - What tests has your doctor already done that prove you are healthy as a horse? I would hope an exhaustive round of testing preceded that declaration. A few tests come to mind - testosterone, blood sugar, thyroid function, Vitamin D, anemia, to name a few.Jimmycrackhorn wrote:... Are my hormones or T levels f--ked up?... It may be that something in addition to the OSA is going on. That does not mean you should stop treating your OSA, but I understand your concern that your treatment may be causing what your feeling. If something is really off about your treatment that could happen. When I was overusing the ramp, I got worse instead of better. If you can muster the energy to investigate your data, it could help you avoid another sleep study. If not, maybe another study wouldn't be a bad idea. You shouldn't feel this bad without the doctors being able to pinpoint a cause. When my doctor gave me yet another negative test result in a dismissive tone, I finally told him to not stop until he had an answer. I don't know your history, but if you were diagnosed with OSA, you do need to address how to get effective treatment. Not treating it will just add trouble to trouble. The good thing about proven effective treatment is it can clear the picture to help identify remaining contributors. Good luck going forward.

If your computer doesn't have an sd card reader (many laptops do), you can buy the best selling one on amazon for $7 - http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Informa ... 009D79VH4/ It's a good investment to be able to monitor your therapy. Some of us get fancy and use a wireless sd card that we can read over our network instead of having to move the card from cpap to computer and then back again.
If you can manage to get sleepyhead running we will be able to get a much better idea of your breathing all night. While it's possible that you may have other complicating factors, the sleepyhead data will give us much more information. Pugsy has an excellent sleepyhead tutorial here: viewtopic/t88983/Pugsys-PointersSleepyH ... Hints.html
We have all suffered from poor sleep and the kind of exhaustion that results. Perhaps you have a friend that could come visit and help you get things set up to see your data?
