Getting set up with my CPAP machine

Post by Enchanter » Fri Jun 26, 2015 12:29 am

So here is the machine that was donated to me. And I'm very grateful for it. I thought I'd post the parts here, instead of postpone it. Tech already confirmed I have sleep apnea, so no doubts that I'll need the machine. Naturally, there are a lot of parts. We have straps, we have small plastic pieces, etc.. Also, not sure which way the mask is supposed to face. Which side is up or down?

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. This is going to be a big learning curve for me. If you know any way to explain the parts, feel free.

(I'm still reading over the notes and instructions)

Here is the link of my Cpap material below, since I don't know if you can post a pic on here.

I would imagine there's a video online for your particular mask. Seeing may be easier than reading.

I would first concentrate on setting up the machine since that should be the easy part and set it up just to test it first, make sure it works etc..
  • Put the machine on a stable platform, perhaps a table with a chair next to it so you can hook it up, plug it in and test to see if it works.
  • The power supply will only plug into one port on the back of the machine.
  • Make sure the Humidity dial is set to 0 unless you have added water (easier to start off with it at 0 and no water) since you will eventually move it near your bed and you don't want to do that with water in it.
  • Hook the hose to the only port it can connect to on the back of the machine.
Some of the parts you have are part of the machine you don't need for example the grey plastic part with the big port on it. That is what is used when you are not using a humidifier. The clear plastic round tubes are most likely extra parts for the machine as well. And the filter in the plastic bag might be extra if there is already a filter in the machine.

As for the mask, looks like a nasal mask but I don't use one so I have no idea what you have and if you have extra parts (I'm guessing you have extra cushions). You should post what it is so someone who uses that mask can speak up.

I think this is the mask in your picture. The link includes an instructional video.

I'm gonna have to keep looking at the manual. Yes, it's on me. But at times I have a hard time concentrating on one thing. So it's on me, I gotta keep trying. But if you know anything, let me know.

Krelvin, Julie and big_dave have given you some specific steps to take to help you get started.
How are you doing with their suggestions?
Have you completed any of them?

Enchanter I sent the link for the Innomed mask video with the paper in the box. The mask was put together when I sent it and I explained that there are 3 sizes of pillows and 3 sizes of mouth parts. The pillows go in your nose and the other part is on the bottom by your mouth/chin. I don't think you could put it on upside down but maybe!

There is a new filter (white and black) in the machine. New hose and extra filters included. You have both the user and provider manuals too. You should be all set and again I wrote that 2 page note explaining it all.

Good Luck tonight!

Don't make assumptions.
I watched my brother in law attempt to put on a Wisp Nasal Mask, withe mask to the back of his head and the straps around his nows and mouth.
Obviously I corrected him.

I hope he got to sleep without much delay. Looking at the time of his last message before leaving (after 11), he may set a new record for latest start of a lab test or titration. Fortunately, they probably don't need too much sleep time.

I was wondering about this too. Even on the west coast, that was after 8pm. Not sure where he lives, but my sleep study had a check-in by 8pm. They had to allow time to get everybody settled in and wired before bed time.
