FitLife total face mask
FitLife total face mask
I am new to using CPAP so I may ask some stupid questions but I have a ResMed AirSense 10 and use a Mirage Quattro full face mask. I am wondering if a FitLife Total Face Mask is compatible with my machine. I also wondered if the pressure would stay the same. I am currently between 12-16.
If these are stupid questions....sorry...I am still learning and thought this site looked like a great resource.

Welcome to the forum.
The short answer is; All masks will fit any machine. Some will come with an adapter. (F&P Simplus comes to mind). The pressure will stay the same. The CPAP determines the back pressure and will adjust the blower to maintain the settings.
Also, please go to your profile (User Control Panel - at the top of the page under the title banner)and fill in your equipment, pressures, and any peripheral software/products that you use. This will give readers a better picture of your setup.
Since you will see many terms and acronyms on this site, I'm providing a link to help understand them.

Re: FitLife total face mask
I have the same, except an S-9 Auto. I find the machine has a hard time pushing the volume of air needed to fill up the expansive area inside the mask and maintain pressures, especially if your having events and the machine is trying to counter them. The two just don't work together very well in my opinion because of that. I run at 15.6 minimum most of the time. Maybe a bi-level machine would do the job better, maybe.....

FYI - that mask is known to leak more than others... and works best for big faces.

Re: FitLife total face mask
I use the FitLife and I don't have a large face or leak problems. I use a micro fleece liner which always minimizes my leaks. I am on ASV with pressure range of 12-25. My machine doesn't have any problem when I use the FitLife.
I tried the FitLife to give my nose bridge a break from my other full face masks. I really like it and it does give my nose a break!

Re: FitLife total face mask
I have used the fitlife total mask for 5 years. I don't use it now because when the Resmed F10 came out, I ordered it, and it has recently become my mask of choice. As stated,, it is bulky and offers no "nose" pressure. I still love the mask and know it fits all machines. All masks are equipped with connectors that allow the hose to connect to the mask. That stuff about "surface area" and "back pressure" is not true.

Re: FitLife total face mask
I agree with the sheriff on the F10, it's a great mask. My Quattro had a sharp edge where the blue ring snapped in, that heald the cushion. That blue ring also had a sharp edge of its own, too. The cut up the bridge of my nose like an exacto blade. The F10 has no sharp edges or anything under the nose bridge area of the cushion that would cut or hurt your nose at all. It's great. I do wonder tho, if they were able to put a wide, flat sealing surface on the F10 like is on the FitLife, if it would seal a little better.

Re: FitLife total face mask
I want the FitLife to have a silicon seal like the one on the Hans Rudolph V2. The V2 needs a solid back so I can put it on and off without adjusting it each time. As well the V2 needs snap release straps, plus a hose snap out so I do not need to take the mask off to get up at night.
I also want the Fit Life to have a chin cup, although it would help if they just marketed to the strap system that has built into it a below the chin strap to keep mask from moving around, rather the keeping the mouth closed.
I believe the design of masks is limited by patent rights. That is one company can not use another companies obviously better idea, so all the masks have some thing that could be obviously improved by something on another mask.

is the Hans Rudolph a great mask? I think it's hit and miss with the amara masks, some nights it seems like I get low AHIs and good therapy. but my amara is brokenpurple wrote:I want the FitLife to have a silicon seal like the one on the Hans Rudolph V2. so the dead space increases CO2 which might turn on the sensing in the brain to take a breath or increase respiration? it's terrible though that my brain is not giving the signals to breathe. I'm not sure how tracheostomy helps centrals though like people say who have had it done

Re: FitLife total face mask
It is a tragedy that the Fitlife cannot be fitted with an independently inflatable (pump)
cushion, as that would greatly expand the number of patients it could FIT.
It could even be adapted according to a patient's weight changes.
Why do industrial designers have so little imagination?

Re: FitLife total face mask
I can't remember but I think the fit life may have had some limited effectiveness and I had some clarity later in the day. actually the older philliips full face masks may last longer because of the durable gels

Re: FitLife total face mask
I liked the FitLife but it just isn't a good fit for my face. My untreated apnea was 8-10 and with the FitLife it was in the 15-19 range. I'm just a problem child when it comes to mask fitting.

Re: FitLife total face mask
Having said that, I had to have my nose cauterized today and used the FitLife to nap this afternoon. It gave me comfort and made me feel better, haven't looked at any numbers yet but since I felt better, I'm happy. Will be using it again tonight to avoid any pressure directly on my nose. I'm very glad to have it as an option!curems wrote:I liked the FitLife but it just isn't a good fit for my face. My untreated apnea was 8-10 and with the FitLife it was in the 15-19 range. Re: FitLife total face mask
I left a leak at the top and tried max ipap 18, epap 7-12 min ps 3cm or so and and around 11am I was really terribly foggy and exhausted, it didn't work maybe because of the leak.
now I changed to max ipap 25, epap 6-13 and min ps 2.5 and I feel a bit better today. but it wasn't as rested as the amara I think
