ResMed S9 Elite won't power up - Please Help

Post by sumomick » Fri Jun 12, 2015 10:29 am

I have a ResMed S9 Elite with the H5i humidifier - purchased thru insurance (DME) in Apr 2012.
I have approx 6150 hours on the machine.

As of 2 days ago, it won't power up. It gets halfway thru the power-up but just keeps rebooting.
I called the place where I purchased... they weren't any help since it is out of the 2 yr warranty, especially since I moved out of state and won't be bringing any more business to them.

Has anyone seen this problem before?
Any idea on how/where to get it fixed?
Any idea how much this will cost to repair?
Can I fix it myself?
Any suggestions?

You need to contact your current insurance (if you have insurance),
and find out who is in network locally. Insurance may cover repair or replacement,
and they should be able to do this without the DB's at the old location.
If you have no back up machine, a used machine might be a good idea.
Forum member Acbio.com does repair, and there are other gear heads here that
regularly open cases, void warranties, and unintentionally complete circuits with fingers, etc.

Thanks for your insights.

I do have a backup manchine - using that now. Just wanted to get this one fixed if possible/easy.

Insurance will not fix the broken machine, but will buy me a new one. That's after I see me primary care doc, get a referral for a sleep study, get the study done, get their recommendation for a CPAP, go back to my PCP for a prescription, find a DME company that takes my insurance, get the CPAP ordered. I'm looking at 2+ months before I get the new machine in hand.

It doesn't make sense to toss this one out if it can be fixed. New machine will cost my insurance $1500+... doesn't make sense that they wouldn't repair the old one, but they won't.

Suggestions on where to look for repair manuals, parts, etc?

I bought a couple of new machines from our hosts, cpap.com.
Many here have machines for sale, or you can use secondwind cpap.com.
Two months is an outrage, since you have been using cpap for around three years already.
Contact your previous doctor for a copy of your old RX, as it should still be good.
Click on anyone's machine listing for an idea of the new price from our forum sponsors.
To get your old machine repaired, try Acbio.com--a forum member.

A new S9 Elite or Autoset will cost your insurance about $600....You could buy one yourself ...out of pocket for about the same. You could buy a newer Autosense 10 for a few dollars more....Sometimes you can buy them w/o a prescription.

Here's a great deal..... viewtopic/p1007460/For-Sale-New-AirCurv ... l#p1007460

do you really think it helps to offer someone a higher price than everything else mentioned so far?

Is retesting common insurance procedure?
Medicare will replace a broken machine that is out of warranty if it is under 5 years old.
Should he be asking the insurance company to show him their written policy regarding broken machines?

Help.. my Resmed S9 message states to check 30/90 power supply unit and fully insert connector but it still doesn't work. The light is on machine and power pack but nothing ... and I need to sleep. Is there a safe way to sleep without machine? Lying propped up?

propped up and seek repair or replace.

If you have unplugged the S9...waited 30 seconds and re-plugged....and it didn't work....sleep propped up and seek repair or replace.

It's contagious. My machine quit working Friday night. Theoretically still under warranty. I have a call in to Resmed and I'll visit my DME today. I think it's just the power supply.

What I don't know is how the process works. I certainly don't like the thought of being without a machine for any length of time.

Time to save my pennies for a backup machine!

Theoretically, the DME should give you a loaner or replace the power supply.

That is my hope / expectation. I fired my first DME because they were awful. I've been happy with this one so far - we'll see what unfolds.
