Kinda OT - Lymphatic Massage for Sinus Sufferers

Post by kteague » Sun May 31, 2015 4:34 pm

I was familiar with lymphatic massage for the legs and that it is sometimes needed for the arms after mastectomy with lymph node removal. Hadn't thought about it in respect to the sinuses. Found this quite informative, and sounds reasonable. Have to say I was more receptive due to the fact it is not commercial quality and nothing is for sale. Am I being a sucker to see value in this?

He's a chiropractor so he must know what he's doing. I bookmarked the video and will watch it a few more times. I have allergies and also have problems with my sinuses and Eustachian tubes. My ENT retired so I have no one to help me anymore. I know I could see a new doctor but my ENT was the best! I'm willing to try massage. Can't hurt

I think it is sound. However it doesn't address why your lymph nodes got congested in the first place.

I would start with concentrating on proper hydration, doing some lymph specific exercises, then do the massage.

Lymph system exercises? Please don't make me google that one. How's that done?

Rhythmic motion seems to help. The most common is rebounding. You can also benefit from going up and down flights of stairs. Intimate, vigorous, sex also seems to get the lymph fluids moving...

Lol, rebounding, had to google that. Trampolining. Used to do that as a kid all the time. Might consider buying one again. Grands would love that. We have a single toddler one here but it is only good to like 45 pounds.

My house is sort of a single story. The rooms have stairs in some but it's only 2.

Last idea.... I don't like the husband this week!

Can I climb a ladder to the loft in the garage? Does rototilling do anything?

It depends...

If you have to jog to keep up with it, yes.

If you ride it and it beats the crap out of you, yes.

If you leisurely walk behind it, probably no.

Jog to keep up with one? Lol, no. It's not like a self propelled lawn mower. It's huge. I have to start it to move it from the garage to the back yard. Once you start rototilling your body feels like it's fighting with a bull. You have to push forward while holding on to something trying throw you off. We have sturdy soil, not sandy. It's a great tiller but they are a lot of work. Nothing like the tillers on the tractors we had on the farm.

You know I probably am getting a great workout in the yard. I roll my 55 gallon compost barrel to mix it. I hand mixed about 500 pounds of bagged soil and compost too. I'm going to look into a trampoline too though. It was a lot of fun and like I said, my grands would love a full size one.

So I read about rebounders v trampolines last night and they both can work for the exercises. I found this: http://www.livestrong.com/article/30569 ... -exercise/ and then googled lymphedema. I don't have any issues with swelling! Did I confuse this? Will the jumping work for the lymph part of my sinuses? I just want to deal with the nasal/ear problems I get every summer

The exercises are designed for the whole body. Once you get things flowing everywhere, you can then do massage for a specific area as was illustrated in the original video.

Allergy symptoms show up in my adult daughter in her ears. The fluid backs up and drains out. Goes though a gazillion Q-Tips just trying to keep them dry. The drainage causes the ear opening to get inflamed. Her ears squeak and nearly gurgle when she touches them they're so wet. I'm hoping I can get her to try the massage diligently for a while to see if it can make a difference or not.

OMG! I thought that was just me! Sometimes I hear what sounds like rushes of air in my right ear. I don't feel any air though. I've woken up with fluid dripping down my neck too.

It sounds weird to me, but I do have manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), just not for the head. It is quite true that the 'terminus' in the neck is where you start rubbing or tapping, as the centre of all lymphatic drainage. I know MLD for swollen arms after breast cancer surgery. In my case it's for the breast and back and relates to an operation scar plus radiotherapy that destroyed lots of lymph pathways in the breast. The lymph system consists of larger, deeper channels connected to the surface of the skin by tiny hairlike channels which are stimulated in MLD by very light massage. First you touch the terminus in the neck, then you 'clear' the lymph nodes in the left or right armpit (this is for the upper body) and then gradually sweep the lymph towards them. All I can say is it helps. The lymph is like eggwhite and it will go hard and start hurting if it's blocked for a long time. I wouldn't have thought the problem in the sinuses was lymph, but what do I know?
