Stuffy nose, higher AHI and leak...only 1 hour on cpap!

Hello, So last night was a total failure all the way around. I adjusted the humidity level to 2 because the night before I had a dry stuffy nose, and it was suggested to raise the level. On top of that it felt as if there was an excess amount of air coming out of the pillows when I inhale, so I also...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

I have an auto but other then the first week I had it, it is set quite tightly. I had an S8 elite set to 9 when I got the new machine so I let it titrate by setting it 7-20 for a few nights. Now it is set 9.5 to 11. I don't use EPR (or CFlex) because I can't stand the changes - that lasted maybe 1/...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

The machine I have is not returnable. So does that mean I will not be able to properly treat my sleep apnea without an Autoset machine? Not at all. Your Elite is a very good machine. This is all stressing me the **** out! Sorry...but I now I am going to stress over not having an autoset machine. Ge...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Many people's pressure needs change with sleep stage, sleep position, age, weight changes, medication, etc. An auto-cpap machine is able to adjust the pressure to compensate for those changes. A fixed mode cpap machine can not change pressure but instead puts out only one pressure. An auto machine ...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

I'm not sure what your arrangement is with your DME and insurance, but I would check ASAP to find out what the policy is on returning machines. I'm not sure they ARE returnable. I think it is likely you are going to need an Autoset machine sometime in the next 5 years, if not now. Unless this is a ...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Is there any way you can switch to an Autoset machine? I'd ask, tell the dr. and the DME of the problems you having, and tell them others have mentioned Autoset / self-titrating models of the same machine and that you may need the Autoset feature, since you are having trouble at a fixed pressure. I...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Do you have any tips or suggestions on how to deal with a dry nose and sore throat? Dry nose needs more humidity. Sore throat means you are mouth breathing (and that could be where your leak numbers are coming from) try an ace bandage as a chin strap to see if it helps. The best lubricant to use is...

If you want to use the ramp set it for something in the 5 - 10 minute range. You don't need anymore time to get use to the full pressure.
Lol yes they do! I will adjust the ramp as you suggested. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

I started off a day or two later than you on the same new, state-of-the-art adjustable machine. I was used to a different model for 5.5 years. Fortunately, I had some ideas on what adjustments to make and got advice here on how to make them. Now, I am hibernating 14-15 hours/ night for the last 2 n...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

I like the suggestions by HoseCrusher upthread. I would like to add that I was so optimistic that cpap therapy would help me that I think it really helped me adjust pretty quickly. 1. Make sure the nasal pillow is comfortable. I mean, really comfortable. The first few nights mine was too tight. I d...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Just saw your post about the grandkids. Are you solely responsible for them at all times? That would make napping harder. Are there any family members or friends you can ask for help for a little while? You can't be superwoman. Unless you have to. Then we do what we have to do. Just wishing there w...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Hi Dawn: it took me four or five weeks to get acclimated. Don't give up!!! I'm around four months in and seeing many positive results, even surprising things like better moods, less anxiety, more patience. But it does take some determination. Good luck to you. You can do it. Eve. Thank you Eve for ...

[quote="mzdawn74" I do not expect to heal in 4 days. But, what I don't understand is why my symptoms keep getting worse? I would think they would stay the same.. Have you ever had physio? Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

Without sleep and rest you will continue to deteriorate. I would guess your first priority would be to stop the deterioration and start rebuilding. I would even go as far as suggesting shutting your computer off and taking a nap... RIGHT NOW!!! A nap is not possible at the very moment. The grandkid...

Re: Beginning to think this is pointless...

It sounds like you aren't getting enough sleep... Sorry for stating the obvious but you need to change your thinking to figuring out a way to get more sleep. When I go on 4 hours a night I also notice my functioning decreasing. So, how can you get more rest...? How about this. Pick a time during th...
