Hi there anyone from Alberta Canada here

Post by Pod911 » Sun May 24, 2015 7:19 am

Just looking for friends here in my age category with this condition I bought a resmed air sense plus machine for 1,095.00 in a bundle I had three options 1 mouth geard there 5,000 and more surgery the sleep clinic only sees people if your over 9 out of ten times you stop breathing 10 is the lucky number I could not sleep at all and I was so weak and the vivid dreams were so real and scary but I looked at a machine at medi gas store the one I wanted the one I have now was 2,600 fillers call it a rip off i found the one I wanted online from Toronto from http://www.cpapmachinescanada.com/products.php
There the best plus if any issue arises with the machine you can call the number to talk to a nurse 24/7 from Toronto hope I will find friends now I feel more like half machine have man and I now I won't live as long as most men now but at least I can live a little longer right now

You might want to mention your age if you are hoping that others of the same age will respond.

What do you mean by this? 9 out of 10 what? Usually, the number of times we stop breathing is an aeverage per hour number - ahi. And quite honestly, anybody higher than 10 ahi is probably not going to have much success with surgery since surgery usually only reduces the number of events in half when successful, and the doctor's goal is to get below 5 (most of us prefer less than 2).

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

The number 23 was bandied about earlier, and apparently they don't teach the use of punctuation in Canadia at such an early age.

Still doesn't make sense. 9 out of 10 times for what?

Do you mean 9 events an hour? For example, I had 79 events per hour in my sleep study.

When you say 9 out of 10, then it means there are 10 possible somethings. There are people with over 100 events per hour, so I have no idea why you are referring to something that is "out of 10".

I assume the minimum of AHI = or > 10 for the Canadian death panel to authorize a machine,
and that Pod missed that number with a nine.
My initial AHI was only 13, and BCBS would not have covered it, except (luckily), I also have HBP.
{{{yeah, go figure}}}.

I am in Edmonton but I don't know your age. I am 66, age doesn't matter when it comes to breathing.
There are several of us in Alberta.

There are many of us here in Alberta. I live in a very small town in southern Alberta and know of at least 10 or 12 folks ( I'm sure there are more) that have to use cpap/apap in my area.
Welcome to the forum, you will get lots of help if you hang out here and ask any questions that you may have.
Cheers
Nan
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Why do you think you won't live as long as 'most' men (if you use Cpap properly)?

There's no reason at all to believe that. What I think we would appreciate is your using punctuation when you write here... because it's really hard to follow one long sentence and figure out what you want.

Cpap is a challenge, but not nearly so much as CP.
As long as we eventually get the idea.

If you have that then they should be doing a proper in lab sleep study on you. There are possibilities that you could have central apnea as well as obstructive.
Hassle them to get a proper study, you have too many side issues that could be affected which can make your use of a cpap machine a requirement. Just because you have only 9 events in an hour is not the determining factor - there is also the oxygen levels.

Just ignore the grammar police, we all do. They are a bit bored with their life and need a project to work on.
