Oxygen with CPAP

Post by Woody » Fri May 22, 2015 3:37 pm

I see some of us use oxygen with our cpap like I do. But where I am 100% compliant
using my cpap even if for a short nap I will sometimes fail to turn the concentrator
on when just taking a nap. Am I the only one else here with this bad habit ?

How does the oxygen work with the CPAP machine?

you hook it into the hose, or into the mask if the mask has oxygen ports.

Thanks, according to the pulmonologist I am suppose to be on oxygen 24/7 but I am not compliant with that as I really don't need it but the sleep study clinic knew that and my primary knew that (she ordered the CPAP) and nobody said anything about hooking the oxygen up to it. Until I started the CPAP three nights ago, I did use the oxygen at night because I couldn't check my levels when I was asleep. During the day I can check them and they are always 94-98. Even at cardiac rehab where I don't use the oxygen it is between 91-98 while exercising. I did use it at first then slowly quit using it there. I would use it 24/7 if I felt it was necessary.

Thanks for listening (reading) to me ramble!

my friend on night o2 uses one of these: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/oxygen ... apter.html just hook it in the line between the machine and the mask somewhere.

another of the folks here with a airsense10 machine and the heated hose drilled a hole in the back of the hose, and added a o2 hose bib to it...

it's all quite easy, actually.. bleed a couple liters in, and enrich yourself

I am also supposed to be on supplemental oxygen (which I still use during the day), but since I received my CPAP a couple of weeks ago, I've stopped using the oxygen at night (just assumed that would be okay since the doctor told me to start CPAP therapy). How on earth does the oxygen hook up to the hose of the CPAP? FWIW, I have an Inogen One portable oxygen concentrator. It has a port where the tube comes out with the nasal cannula at the end. I don't see how the two are compatible.

There is now a ClimateLineAir Oxy hose available for the Airsense machines

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ve-10.html

The product picture doesn't show it but there is an oxygen port on the butt end of the hose near where is attaches to the machine air outlet.

Not the best picture but you can see the O2 nipple sticking out

Thanks all! I have said since I found this site that the people here know more than my doctors do when it comes to CPAP, I started lurking right after my split night sleep study a month before I got the machine.

I like to assume my oxygen levels are okay with the CPAP but really don't know, now I can hook decide if I want to buy the extra hose and hook up to my concentrator.

Just install an adapter like this and use the O2 whenever you use your CPAP.

Where would one find that kind of adapter?

That particular one is from DirectHomeMedical but they are available from CPAP.COM and other online providers. The cost is something like $5 or so. I got one at the hospital ER when I had an overnight stay and they put me on O2 and their CPAP as I didn't pack mine in the middle of the night.

you can always buy yourself your own oximeter, a great wrist mounted one that records overnight and imports into sleepyhead can be had from aliexpress.com for under 100 (search through the listings for the best price on a CMS50I) (that's i as in eye)
