DIY CPAP Tube Holder Idea
DIY CPAP Tube Holder Idea
Hi,
I am new to using a CPAP machine. When preparing for the big day (the day that I received my machine), I learned about the benefits of CPAP tube holders... and about how expensive some are.
After doing a bit of brainstorming, I came up with my own CPAP tube holder idea that I want to share with the community, particularly those on a budget. It's basically my version of the Hoze Boss, which cost me less than $5 to make. (I take pride in my frugality.) Feel free to check out my creation and the step-by-step tutorial on my blog.
Here's a picture of it:

Mine's just like it, except a small bungie cord in place of the badge holders.

Thanks! (And, thanks for the points.) When coming up with this idea, I actually looked around my house for badge holders that I received from past conventions. They all went to the thrift shop. For some reason, though, I have a ton of lanyards.deforeman wrote: Welcome!

That's a good idea.herefishy wrote:Mine's just like it, except a small bungie cord in place of the badge holders.

Cool. Just wanted to add that one use for the lanyards is to attach to all those little flash drives. It's so easy to lose those suckers behind the crap on your desk or in your drawers.FERGIE wrote:Thanks! (And, thanks for the points.) Do what you need to be successful with CPAP.
But think about how you are going to manage when you travel.
For me it was better to keep things simple and it was fairly easy to learn to sleep with the hose lying in the bed.

That's exactly what I end up doing with them.SewTired wrote:...Just wanted to add that one use for the lanyards is to attach to all those little flash drives. It's so easy to lose those suckers behind the crap on your desk or in your drawers.

Re: DIY CPAP Tube Holder Idea
Have you tried not using a hose buddy of any kind? That's what I did when started CPAP. No one told me about them, and I hadn't done any research ahead of time. Once I learned about them, I considered getting one, but then realized I didn't need one as I wasn't getting rainout, and my headboard is an antique wrought iron thing that is easy to hang the tube on. I actually do hang the tube on the headboard during the day.FERGIE wrote:Hi,

If your machine is low enough that the hose will dip down toward the floor before it comes up to the mask, you won't get rainout. In the sixteen months I've been on CPAP, I've only replaced one hose (and it's still going strong) so I don't think there's an advantage to a hose buddy unless it's needed to prevent rainout. I do love your idea... my father was a do-it-yourselfer, always finding ways to use extra doo-dads around the house, and I do it now. If I ever need one, I'll probably rig up my own by tying it to my headboard with binder clips or carabiners.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: DIY CPAP Tube Holder Idea
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experiences. I did consider not using a holder. However, my machine is on the top of my headboard, on the built-in shelf. I don't have a side table because we pushed the bed up against the wall (the room is small). With the CPAP above my head, I imagined the consequences of condensation and gravity and decided to create a hose buddy. I managed to mount it in such a way that I never get tangled in the hose at night, which is good because I sometimes roll around as if I were wresting a crocodile.library lady wrote: Have you tried not using a hose buddy of any kind?

I don't think you can beat this one but Amazon is out of them:
for travel the hollow metal post folds down telescopically and held together by an inside springy cord, an ingenious design!
It's here now for $21. Amazon used to sell it for less than $10.

Shrrrrrrr! That gives me the creeps.
Sometimes I use a mask that looks like that one and it is so easy just to let the hose run from the nightstand across the mattress to the mask.
But do what you have to do to get a good CPAP therapy.
