first night

Post by AWMIII » Tue May 19, 2015 2:15 pm

Last night was my first night of my Cpap way of life. I managed to get some sleep, but woke up with a headache. My in hospital sleep study registered an AHI of 45 or so. Last night my machine registered 4.3. I guess I am on the right track?

Sounds like it! It also sounds like you have a data capable machine. I encourage you to list your equipment like we all have at the bottom of our posts. You can select your equipment from the dropdown menu in your User Control Panel.

With an AHI of 4.3 you are obviously still having some apnea events, so the headache isn't too surprising. I don't know how much sleep you got ("some sleep") but not getting a great night's sleep can also cause one to wake up with a headache. Over time if you''re monitoring your therapy (SleepyHead is free software for monitoring PAP therapy) you will likely be able to bring that AHI down more -- and it may just improve as you become adjusted to the therapy..

I will need to look at the mask when I get home. It is a full face mask as I might be a mouth breather. I woke up a couple of times with leaks and adjusted the straps to stop them. I wore it 8 hours last night.

Sounds like you are off to decent start... You don't mention what mask you are using..
Was the mask leaking or anything? You need to get the software SleepyHead to check you therapy and your progress.

If you are using a full face mask you may need to check into mask liners they really help with leaks and also
help to keep the mask lines off of you face...

I wish you well....

Just a tip - if you're overtightening the straps behind your neck, you could be giving yourself that headache... you shouldn't have to do that if the mask was fitted well to begin with, plus it can even create smaller leaks in new places and the cushion doesn't get to inflate as it should.

Did you have a titration sleep study where they hooked you up to a mask and machine to find out what pressure to start you out at or is this machine being run in apap mode what you are using to find the optimal pressure?

I'm going to give you a link to learn to use imgur to post your screen shots. It seems to be a little easier to work with and you don't need to join unless you want to join. https://sleep.tnet.com/reference/tips/imgur

From what I could see on your screenshots it looks like you are going to need a little more minimun pressure to clear up some of your obstructives and hyponeas. Then maybe the snores will follow.

It is running in apap mode. 7-17. I did NOT have a titration study. My DR is supposed to be getting this information via modem. However, I have not been given access to the portal yet when the information is. I ran these reports by pulling the SD card myself.

Download the manual and read it. It will explain how to get to the ultra secret clinical setup menu as well as explain various features on your machine.

So the doc is using the apap to find the right pressure...
You will likely need more minimum pressure starting point than the 7 you are currently seeing.
He may want to wait a little bit until the sleep is less fragmented to get a better idea what is going on but the snores and OAs tell me that the airway is still trying to collapse and at the current pressure the machine can't get to where it needs to be quickly enough to prevent the further collapse.
How much more....I don't know but I would suspect around 9ish cm minimum and with a more optimal minimum you might find that the maximum doesn't go so high.

The machine does a better job preventing something from happening in the first place than it does trying to fix something after it happened.

Any idea how long the doc wants to see the data before suggesting an optimal pressure?

What is the 3 digit model number on the bottom of your blower unit?
Your profile points to the 60 Series Pro which is model 460 but the SleepyHead report seems to point to the 60 Series Auto which is model 560.

I am sure it is what the Sleepyhead report says since that is pulled from the SD card. I am not home right now, but I'll double check. Is there that much difference?

yes.

also, here's a nice page on how to better organize sleepyhead charts so that more information is presented:
