Any CPAP users from Singapore?

Post by Special2 » Sun May 10, 2015 8:33 am

Hi All

I am new to this community although I have been prescribed with CPAP for 5 years. My usage has been low, as it has not been comfortable for me so far.

I am wondering if there are users here from Singapore.

thanks. Hope to pick up some knowledge in this community.

Welcome

Click on the user panel in the upper left corner and fill in your equipment. It is much easier to help you if we know what you are driving.

Also what exactly are the problems you are having?

Hello,

I'm from Singapore too. I've only just started using a CPAP machine - it's been only a few weeks.

The first few days were indeed quite uncomfortable. There were a few nights where I had to take the mask off. I guess this period of adjustment is unavoidable.

I've have 2 suggests that have helped lots. Unfortunately they were learnt the hard way

1. You need to get a mask that's right for you. My first mask was the Philips Wisp nasal mask which was very well reviewed. Unfortunately my nose doesn't fit it properly so I ended up with a sore/blister on the bridge after only 2 days. I had to take a break from using the machine, very frustrating so soon after starting. The retailer was of no help so I took my business online. I purchased a Swift FX nasal pillow mask from 1800-CPAP (they ship to Singapore via very reasonably priced FedEx - i was surprised) and it's been a lot better. It's not perfect when I'm sleeping on my side but it does the trick for now. I may try the Aloha which has been recommended for side sleepers. I suppose this is the expensive part of the process - you've just got to figure out what works for you by trial and error.

2. The hose is a real pain in the ass. It gets in the way and it's quite difficult to keep it suspended over you (as recommended) without any help. I put together a little stand using PVC tubing. It doesn't look pretty but it works very well. And it cost me less than $5 for the parts! Works very, very well. I highly recommend rigging something like this up. A hanger on a hook would probably work too.

I'm now pretty used to sleeping with the mask. I still wake up in the middle of the night but it's still early days and I'm sure things will get better.

Good luck!
