Resmed AirFit™ P10 Nasal Pillow leaks

Post by Nathan C. Morales » Wed May 06, 2015 6:01 pm

Hi all,

I have an AirFit™ P10 Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear (medium). I notice that as I have increased my minimum pressure, air seems to be leaking out of the mesh portion of my mask (see photo below). I have two of these pieces of headgear and they both do it.

I can hear the air leaking out of the mesh in between breathes. Is this normal?

The mesh is where the normal venting occurs. So, yes it is normal to feel air coming out of the mesh area. It's diffused and not as strong as with other masks vent holes but it is normal to feel a little air in that area.

There is a design leak from the frame diffuser that is intended to keep you from rebreathing exhaled air. That leak is intentional, and pretty well designed to be quiet and effective. Normal

Right O. Thanks all!

I've still been struggling with clustering so I thought that might have something to do with it. I'm just trying to optimize at this point.

as the others have mentioned, it's normal. if it didn't vent from there, you'd die.

generally, I don't hear it blowing from there... though I have had a big noisy leak if I didn't get the nose pieces snapped into the frame properly.

Your report isn't horrible and the clustering isn't nearly as bad as it was a while back.
Probably another 0.5 cm increase in that minimum pressure will reduce it further but if you are sleeping good and feeling good there is no urgent need to reduce the clustering you are seeing unless this good report is a fluke and the others look worse.

Hi Pugsy,

This is one of the better ones. I've been a bit heavier on the clustering and averaging an AHI of 4-5.

Since this one is not necessarily a typical report then I would probably try a little more minimum pressure to see if I could break up the clusters a bit. Unknown as to how much but at this stage I would go up in small increments like 0.5 cm.
Just remember that you have to remove any CA index when just evaluating the AHI itself. More pressure won't fix the CAs. I just thought I would mention it just in case the CAs are much of a factor on those 4 to 5 AHI nights.

Nathan, I agree with Pugsy, which isn't hard to do. Your leak rate looks great and you can see how your PRS1 auto shows excess leak rate in a two part graph. Most of the night, it is near zero, and the allowed leak around 35 is consistent with your pressure settings. My results are similar.

How comfortable are you? We sometimes get caught up in the numbers, and the bottom line is really how you feel. Your pressure requirements are approaching a level where some people benefit from bilevel, but if you're good with the pressure, don't worry about it.
