Helmet Bests Mask for Infant CPAP

Post by pbriggs » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:40 pm

an interesting read - they use CPAP to treat infant bronchiolitis - they found the use of the helmet to be better. Never knew there was a helmet

I know that poor baby is sick, but the helmet is adorable.

My grandson had that binky though his was a green frog. As for the baby...adorable! I can imagine that he wakes with bright red circles on his cute little cheeks. It must look cute, and as above, it's sad that he is sick.
Morbius, are you bored?

Hmmm... I wonder if there might not be some advantages to a helmet style CPAP mask for adults. It might help with side sleeping and mask stability. It could also have some usefulness for a chin strap function.

Grumble, grumble, grumble. DA*N stupid media.

That picture is NOT a CPAP helmet, it's a helmet used with standard O2 nasal cannula, not a form of nasal CPAP mask.

It's from this parent's blog about their baby. http://tommyandellie.com/index.php/tuck ... n-updates/

A CPAP helmet looks like this.

Well, I can see why they went with the cute picture, rather than the alien abduction picture *smile*.

My younger daughter almost died from RSV-related respiratory distress. She was in an oxygen tent. That picture, for whichever reason, isn't adorable to me, it is frightening.

Thank god for the "adorable" helmet for this child and the oxygen tent that helped save your daughter's life. I'm sure her illness was frightening.

And thank god for the ulgy ass CPAP headgear and masks I wear everynight that hopefully will keep me from dying in my sleep one day.

Medical Technology is amazing and we are lucky to have such devices available to us.

And the nasal cannula has nothing to do with the helmet -- on their blog the parents write that the helmet is to help round out the sides and top of the baby's head from laying in the hospital bed for prolonged periods of time (baby was a preemie).

I wonder if the parents are aware that their photo was used by MedPage.

Good news! Circadiance's crowdfunding effort for child and infant cpap masks surpassed their goal!
