Anyone else under 40 w/ OSA?

Post by candlegirl76 » Mon Apr 27, 2015 4:14 pm

I'm interested in knowing if there are anymore like me out there. I just turned 39 and I feel like I'm too young to have high BP that requires meds and then to find out that I have OSA, which probably caused the high BP in the first place. I've had migraines since I was 11 but they changed after I had my 3 kids and then I got them all the time and not just 3-6x a year. Add to that depression (which has been killing me, literally, because I'm Miss Happy Sunshine Girl and never got so depressed that I couldn't talk myself out of it) and having a hard time losing weight, no sex drive and three kids to chase around. Exhaustion and just barely surviving isn't fun and I really want to thrive and climb mountains. My husband deserves more, my kids deserve more and I deserve more than just survival! That's why I'm here, that's why I'm doing the APAP therapy and that's why I want to know everything I can about OSA and optimal treatment, lifestyle changes and sleep!

I'm almost 34 years old and I got diagnosed with it when I was 23 or 24 by a sleep study so who knows how long before that I had it. But I was always overweight! As of now I'm 5'9 and weigh 318! I started a diet almost a month ago.... I lost 12 pounds with no exercise. I really need to start exercising to drop it faster and get healthier!!!

I probably had it in my twenties, I was so tired, weepy, felt like a shovel full of corral mud.
Finally diagnosed in my sixties. Late is better than never!

I'm 25 and have it. I was diagnosed with severe OSA when I was 16 years old with AHI 30 (no desats, though, thank god).

I'm just under 30, but don't know if I have OSA yet. If I had it though, I remember the day I got it. Everything changed overnight, I am very sensitive and can sense things.

I won't be 40 again for 10 more years and I was diagnosed 4.5 years ago. When I think about my symptoms I suspect I have had it at least 10-15 years.
Your migraines suggest you may be nutrient deficiant. My wife had migraines for years. She started taking magnesium and calcium supplements plus some vitamin D and hasn't had a migraine in years.

Have snored since age 16. Was not overweight, but had an overbite. Dr said retracted jaw can cause apnea at any age

I'll continue the trend. I was diagnosed with OSA at 31 but now that I can compare treated versus untreated, I know I had it a long time before 31. Honestly, my biggest regret is not getting a sleep study at say 25. Even if life gets in the way and i only get 4 or 5 hours of sleep, those 4 to 5 hours are far better than 8 or 9 without treatment.

If I do in fact have it, I've had it since age 19. I remember the day everything started becoming rough and I started to become tired and not sleep. No joke. Happened OVERNIGHT....... And what's ironic is that it happened the night after I sprained my ankle. I have no idea why that is, but everything started to go bad for me after that ankle sprain.

no matter what you may *imagine*, OSA does not happen overnight.

Anyone else under 40 w/ OSA?

Post by candlegirl76 » Mon Apr 27, 2015 10:12 pm

I think I've probably had it most of my life. I have always been tired but the sleep deprivation brought on by having a baby 6 years ago then almost 3 years later having twins just made it spiral out of control. That was an interesting thread, LSAT. I'm wondering if my mom had it, too, like my dad did (but it was untreated). I'm sure more of my siblings have it (I'm the youngest) and don't want to admit it.

I've tried every vitamin, herb and mineral that is out there for my migraines and they have only started improving since I started the APAP therapy a month ago.

It'll be good to get the results of your sleep study back. I did an "at home" sleep study and it took almost a month and a half to get the results back. So frustrating to wait and wonder, what if. My doctor stopped my sleeping pills that he had given me to help me sleep (for insomnia and not feeling rested in the morning after a full nights sleep) because it's dangerous to use them if you do have untreated sleep apnea. So I was a wreck by the time we got the results back. I wish I had known sooner that all 5 of my brothers, including the two younger ones who were in good physical condition and not overweight had it. Maybe I would have gotten the sleep study sooner and not had to have reached the "end of my rope"! Hang in there. You should know soon!

Good for you on losing some weight! Great start! I'm working on that, too. As the recommendation from the sleep clinic that diagnosed my SA is that I drop 10% of my body fat. I'm also trying to work out (aerobic exercise, mostly walking) 7 days a week to help lower my cholesterol and eat less "bad" carbs, per my GP. It can be hard to find the will power to follow that plan when I'm still so tired all the time. Keep up the good work and I guess we need to take it one day at a time and not let one bad day turn into more bad days!
