CPAP AND COPD
CPAP AND COPD
Just wondering if there are many people on this forum who also have COPD, I had my sleep study and will be put on the CPAP soon, must say I am not looking forward to it, I guess no one was. I was diagnosed with the COPD and congestive heart failure and heart attack all at the same time just two months ago so am feeling overwhelmed.

I was quite happy to strap on the mask many years ago, and have worn it every nice since.cancun wrote:, must say I am not looking forward to it, I guess no one was.

Re: CPAP AND COPD
CPAP can be challenging to get used to, but once you do you'll love it. Breathing clean, filtered air all night can only help.

Re: CPAP AND COPD
That is a diagnostic triple-play -- no wonder you're overwhelmed. There are a few folks here with COPD. You can find some of them by typing "copd" in the search box (upper left corner of the forum page) -- this search will take you to discussions where COPD is mentioned (I just tried it). The discussions might be of interest to you, and you'll also be able to see who has talked about their experience with COPD and CPAP. Many people have private messaging enabled, so you can also reach out to them once you know who they are. Good luck.cancun wrote:Just wondering if there are many people on this forum who also have COPD, I had my sleep study and will be put on the CPAP soon, must say I am not looking forward to it, I guess no one was. Thank you for your replies, now just waiting for the pulmonologist to get back to me this week and for the insurance to approve it all.

Re: CPAP AND COPD
I hope you have a easy time using cpap some of us struggle but some of us
had no trouble at all. Shoot it just took me a couple of hours to get used
to wearing a full face mask. The only trouble I have is my pet bird can't stand
it !

Re: CPAP AND COPD
I have CHF and COPD. I have been using bipap for a year and a half, and must say it has helped both greatly. Much less heart palpitations, more energy, and better sleep. Also use oxygen when sleeping.
I look forward to putting on the mask when I go to bed. It is so much easier to breath with the machine!
Patients with CHF sometimes get a drowning feeling when first lying down. I did. By using the bipap for a couple of minutes before lying down, this has eliminated almost all of these experiences.

I also have CHF though I don't have COPD. Wouldn't bother trying to sleep or take a nap without my cpap at anytime. BiLevel CPAP user 8+ Years now.

Re: CPAP AND COPD
yes the CPAP will beat the alternative and I have every intention of giving it my best shot. They used the BiPap on me in the hospital but the insurance would not approve it as my numbers did not justify it. The hospitalist agreed that the numbers didn't justify it and that it was easier to get once you were out of the hospital but the sleep study said CPAP. My issue in the hospital was my carbon dioxide level was 88 and should not have been higher than 45. I am still confused by it all.palerider wrote:I was quite happy to strap on the mask many years ago, and have worn it every nice since.cancun wrote:, must say I am not looking forward to it, I guess no one was.

It has been very helpful just reading thru so many of these posts, I am learning a lot and once I get my machine I am sure I will have a lot of questions and will appreciate any help I can get.
I am not sure if I am doing it correctly to show that I am responding to your response or not.
