for sale - ResMed S9 autoset
hello,
Despite the fact that I should continue to use a CPAP, I just can't get used to it. So I am trying to sell my ResMed S9 Autoset machine. There is less than 10 hours of use. I never made through one full night.
I have all the original packaging, manuals, carrying case, power supply, etc.
Please let me know if anyone is interested.
I do understand the sensitivity of this, so if I am not supposed to post a message in this manner, I apologize.
Thanks,

If you only have 10 hours on the unit you really have not tried very hard........Before you attempt to sell, be sure that you actually own the unit. If insurance bought it, they may check on compliance and if you have not complied, they could ask for the machine back.

Just in case you REALLY don't want to try using it;
Did you buy this unit outright or did you get through your insurance? If you got it with the aid of your insurance, then you're probably renting it and need to return it or face a whopping bill.

Re: for sale - ResMed S9 autoset
yes thank you for the heads up. I checked and I did purchase the CPAP rather than rental.
And I do appreciate the general support here that I should continue to use it, but it just doesn't work for me personally. it is too invasive. I am working with my dentist and sleep doctor to try a mouthpiece.
thanks

Keep in mind that the mouthpiece devices are considered successful if they reduce your events by 50%. Unless your untreated ahi is 10 or less, you woul still be considered untreated. And even at 5, that means your sleep is being disturbed on average, every 12 minutes.
With a cpap, you can go from severe to very well treated. My untreated ahi is 79. My treated ahi with cpap is almost always below 1.5. I would never be able to do that with a mouthpiece.
Do you have a copy of your sleep study? What is your untreated ahi? Are you aware that it will get worse overtime. Most of us did not start at severe. We got that way over the years.
Also, it really takes a good trial to make this work. I was lucky to have a really good tech at my sleep study. I had a wonderful 5 1/2 hours with the mask at the sleep study, so I felt really good the next day and learned the difference between my normal sleep and what it is supposed to feel like. Once home with my own machine and mask, it took me 6 WEEKS to figure out how to get the mask to fit well for me. This is not an easy treatment to accept, but it works really well if you give it a real try. 10 hours is not a real try. You owe it yourself (and any family) to give this a real try, as in several months.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

It really is not invasive, and it is clear that you need to go back to step 1.cluckee wrote:yes thank you for the heads up. I checked and I did purchase the CPAP rather than rental.

Step one -- resolve that you want to use the gold standard for treatment of your disease.
Step two -- ask for help here. MANY very smart people will try their best to help you.
Please don't give up. Giving up rarely if ever leads to a satisfactory solution.

I've heard some very good things about the current dental appliances...you would be doing yourself a favor, though, to get a sleep study done with the dental appliance to be sure you know where you stand. And be sure that you do your research up front and get one of the new ones that does work well.cluckee wrote:yes thank you for the heads up. I checked and I did purchase the CPAP rather than rental.

You could wait to get rid of the cpap until you find out how well the dental appliance works for you...that's what I'd do, but I'm kind of a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy, and know that not everything works for me that works for others *smile*.

Re: for sale - ResMed S9 autoset
I am new to cpap. Been on it four months. I paid alot of money for a mouth device and I found it very uncomfortable. It has to hold my jaw at a very unnatural position all night long. When i woke up, my muscles were stiff and sore. My dentist compared it doing yoga and your muscles are not used to being in those positions. So, dont think that a mouthpiece is an easy thing to get used to. It is more comfortable using the cpap than the dental device. If I were you, I would give cpap a chance. At least keep it until you know the dental device is going to work for u.

Please don't give up yet ... you have not even used it yet .... have you been able to do anything with only 10 hours of practice ... golf, tennis, driving a car, quit smoking, ... anything at all ???
I started cpap 10 months ago ... after 3 months I went to a dentist and got a titratieable MAD .... and had it titrated in a sleep lab to AHI 5.0 .... and was that painful ... I used it for a week .... then used it with the cpap .... then it wound up in a drawer, where it still sits.
I am sure glad medicare paid the $2000.00 for it.
I then got serious about using the cpap and making it work.
My AhI is usually under 1.0 now .... with the CPAP.
Please don't give up yet !!!

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I am glad to read that you're at least seeking an alternative way to treat your apnea. You might want to click on the link in my signature for the research that was done on dental devices as you will find that adjustable appliances worked alot better than fixed ones in getting the apnea rate below 5 and that they mostly worked for people with mild to moderate apnea although there were a few severe ranges that had some luck. Agree with RogerSC about getting a sleep test done and hanging on to your cpap until your sure the appliance will work.
Best of luck to you.

wow, overwhelmed by the level of support on here. thank you to all.
as I mentioned, I realize that I haven't put forth the effort into making the CPAP work.
I will keep my options open.
thanks

Re: for sale - ResMed S9 autoset
I just started Cpap therapy last night using this very machine. There were no miracles. There were some struggles. I have no answers, I will leave those to the wise and generous veterans. I post this to remind myself I am not alone in my struggles to get healthier. I hope in a small way it is helpful if you realize that there are others engaging in similar battles.
All I know is that I am going to try it again tonight. Download my data as soon as I am able and try to make choices that support my health. Best Wishes.
