"Breathing not detected" on Encore?

Post by LibbyLou » Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:15 am

This is the first time I've seen that. Should I be concerned?? Or did the mask maybe slide completely off briefly and I didn't realize it, then it went back?

My AHI went up again last night as well. I wish I could figure this out.

The mask moved and there was a big leak briefly and it was big enough the machine didn't know you were there.
No big deal and it was brief and somehow you got it back where it was supposed to be.
Look at the leak line...see it is elevated and then sort of disappears? That's high leak causing the machine to not know you are there.

Okay, that's what I was thinking. I just figured I would remember it moving THAT much, but I don't. Thanks.

It's surprising how much big leak we can sleep through and conversely some people are disturbed by the tiniest of leaks and will wake right up.

Are you where you can easily try another mask from your DME?

After months of no leaks, I've had a couple of days with large leaks that lasted 20 minutes or so which I don't really remember happening except that I was awake at the end and felt that the mask was poorly positioned. Didn't realize there was any significant leak until I looked at the data in the morning.

Turns out, my soft cervical collar was just worn out and no longer supporting my jaw properly. Changed it out for a new one I have as a spare, and leaks dropped back to zero again.

You know upon looking at that leak graph further...you had other times where the leaks were up in the same area and not flagged.
Makes me wonder if the hose came off the mask or the mask was totally off the nose.
And yes, the hose can come off the hose and we put it back on and never remember it.

Pugsy:

I had that happen in my last sleep study. I just got it hooked back up when the RT can jogging in to fix things.
In that environment, pulling the hose off of the back of the machine makes enough noise to wake you right up.

I used to have the short hose of the Tap Pap come loose from the long hose when I wouldn't have it stuck in there really good because it had a tendency to be a bit loose unless it was crammed in the long hose.
I have had it wake me up but I did have a couple of times where it must have happened from the looks of the leak graph and I didn't remember it.

What's even more surprising is that both things can happen to the same person.

In the 4 1/2 years I've been at this, I've had maybe 5 official Large Leaks on my PR System One. None of them have really woken me up enough to know I'm awake. But I regularly wake up to small, but irritating leaks when the nasal pillows are just starting to go. The difference is that those small leaks that wake me up tend to just as I'm starting to get to sleep. The hand full of Large Leaks have started when I'm really sound asleep.

Yeah, I can. I wonder if I can get away with nasal pillows now that my stuffiness has gone down?

Try the nasal pillow mask if that is something that you want to try.
You won't ever know how well anything works or not unless you try.
