Sinus Surgery?

Post by footballgirl13 » Wed Apr 22, 2015 4:22 pm

I have a 2 cm lobular opacity in left maxillary sinus. 7mm lobular opacity in right maxillary sinus. This is why I have been having to much issues with my sinuses since 2005. However they did get much worse with the use of CPAP starting in 2013. It says I have cysts or polyps in sinuses, but the left side is larger than the right. Makes sense since I'm usually more able to breathe out of right nostril. Perhaps that's why I sleep on my left side?

I have read up on UPPP surgery and heard from others to not have it and it makes sleep apnea worse. I don't think I need UPPP surgery. I was told from my doctor that I have tiny tonsils. Does anyone know what kind of surgery is called for to remove cysts and polyps of my size? I don't know if 2cm is large, but guessing that my check is only a few inches wide from nose to end of my eye I'm guessing 2cm is quiet large.

I see a ENT specialist in May 2015.

I also have sinus issues and a deviated septum, and you name it with nasal problems I would definitely suggest to you to get a 2nd opinion. I had a CT of my sinuses in 2013 and no infection seen at that time, but am constantly getting them. I just got over one a couple weeks ago; antibiotics, Medrol Dose Pack.
If you can get another opinion, that would be the best thing. I know I don't have polyps and you mentioned that you do, that is why a 2nd opinion is very crucial.

I had out patient surgery to correct a deviated septum and remove polyps.....after the first 2 days the recovery was pretty easy. It made NO DIFFERENCE in my sleep apnea. I did not expect it to make a difference.

Ah, this is what I was looking for! You answered my question. Thank you. But I bet ya it is easier for you to sleep if you can breathe easier. But I was hoping that having some surgery would reduce my apnea from 15 an hour (without Bipap) to 5.

But anything that helps me sleep better with less clogging in my nose would really help.

This is all case by case basis unfortunately. I've had patients where I think it wouldn't work and then they have a repeat study and they are amazing in having reduced sleep apnea. Unfortunately I've seen the opposite too where it does nothing. You need to consult about your own case. Good luck.
