Turn off the heat?

Post by mikes47 » Sun Apr 19, 2015 8:46 pm

I'm a new CPAPer and was provided the very basic ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP. I started just last Monday and am doing well. But I'm heading out for a long trip in my small motor home and my CPAP machine uses about 40% of my battery capacity if I am not plugged in. Is there a way to access the settings to turn off the heating element? I think it would be more conservative energy-wise.
Thanks for any information.
Mike

You can set the humidifier to 0 which will turn off the heat to the water chamber. You will need to go into the clinical setup menu (I think).
You can still have water in the chamber even with the humidifier turned off and get a small amount of added moisture to the air.

I'm also a newbie cpapper trying to turn off heat but with a different model Resmed machine (s9 Elite I think--I'm not at home to check). Reason: I much prefer cooler air but need humidifier on too.

Is there no way to turn heat off yet still retain humidity settings?

Other posts were talking about discreet temperature settings (e.g., 80 degrees)--is that only for Autoset models? I can't see any such setting even in the clinical settings.

Please advise.

Except when passive (no heat settings), the humidity comes from heating the water in the humidity tank to generate the moisture to get into the air flow. No heat, and you will only get passive humidity which is a lot less.

he may be talking about turning off the hose heat and leaving the water heat on... which can be done either by changing settings, or just giving the climateline hose a bit of a twist to disengage the connection, thus making it behave like a plain hose. (but be sure to set the hose type to 'slimline'.)

Byron do you use the Climateline (Heated) tubing with your CPAP device? When the Climateline tube is attached you can set the degrees. When you're using a standard tube though, the humidity settings (on my s9 autoset) merely show a level (1-6 I believe) instead of a temperature. The warmth of the water in the humidifier will warm the air somewhat but not the the extent a Climateline hose will.
