Problems with SD card and Mac
Problems with SD card and Mac
I used to check sleephead on my old laptop but since trying it with my Mac (downloaded the apple version of SH and lock and unlock the card) I have to erase the damn thing each time I put it back in the machine. I gave up and don't bother checking any more but am getting curious so thought I would ask if anyone else has run into this problem?

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
The lock on the SD card is not an electronic lock that prevents writing but an optical lock that allows an SD drive to see the position of the piece of plastic that is the lock. A prior poster opined that some SD drives do not check the status. It is possible (can a Mac user chime in here) that your computer is one of those. In that case the Mac OS will always try to write a hidden file to the card and the ResMed machine will have a fit because something changed on the card.
If the Mac version of SH reads the data correctly, then the slight inconvenience of having to say the equivalent of "yes" when putting the card back into the machine shouldn't be enough to give up on collecting and analyzing your treatment data. At least, I would put up with it but I'm a little OCD about collecting data.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
I thought when I hit "yes" I was erasing all the previous data because I would only get one days data when the sleepyhead read the card each time.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
You could also consider getting a wireless sd card and wirelessly read the data from the card into your computer. The sleepmaster program that most people use to do this doesn't seem to have a mac verion: http://www.sleepmaster.org/home.html This is probably too complicated a solution for mac people unless they are very familiar with computer networking.
It sounds like the mac is writing something onto the sd card. The mac may or may not choose to honor the write-protect slider on the sd card. If you have an external sd card reader that plugs into usb, you might also try that and see if the same thing happens.
You shouldn't need to erase or change anything on the sd card. In the ideal case, the computer never writes anything to the card which is why they recommend write-protecting it. If the cpap machine asks to format the card, then it thinks it's been modified or corrupted somehow.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
I am using a Mac to download the data on SH. I don't think the Mac will overwrite your older data on the card but just show you the data you have yet to download.
In order to be sure nothing happen to the data I save a copy of the on the Mac.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
When you get the "invalid card" message from the S9 when you insert the SD card then something on the SD card has changed and the S9 doesn't like change. I have no idea why if you write protect the SD card (that little slider thing) that the SD card is getting something put on it or changed.
Anyway...when you get the "invalid card" message and your only choice is to let the S9 clean up the SD card and start all over...yes...the detailed data gets erased but it should already be in your software reports.
Now the S9 will store summary usage (AHI and maybe some pressures and hours of use) on the machine's internal memory and those never get erased unless you make a point to reset the data on the S9....and the data that is stored on the S9 will be written right back to the SD card after the S9 does its little erase thing because it didn't like the card. Now the graphs (detailed data files) aren't stored on the S9 so they can't be put back on the SD card but it really shouldn't matter because you have the data files and graphs already in Sleepyhead.
Yeah, it's a PITA to have to see that "invalid card" message but it isn't the end of the world.
Your detailed data and graphs should already be in SleepyHead from the last download.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
Not normal for a Mac. The write protect on the SD card maybe busted. Try a different card maybe?

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
I'm ok with the machine rejecting it but was curious that I would only get the one day loading onto SH. With my old computer I had days of data. I like to compare. I will get a new card and see how that goes. Thanks for the input.

Re: Problems with SD card and Mac
Are you downloading daily and having to let the S9 erase the card daily?
And where is the old data that was downloaded previously?
Are you saying you only see one daily detailed date in Sleepyhead?
I assume you are using the latest Mac version of SleepyHead? 0.9.8-1
