Sleep Apnea/Alzheimer's Connection

Post by Sleep2Die4 » Thu Apr 16, 2015 4:03 pm

I just received a text message from my granddaughter who is a producer for NBC. Their evening news show (6:30 p.m. here) will have a segment tonight.

Thank you! I just watched the segment. As soon as they put it up on their website, I am going to send the link to some of our friends and relatives. Gramps and I still hear, "We just snore and snoring doesn't damage your health."

Thanks Tom. That's going in my FB newsfeed.

Gramps said when he started CPAP, everyone was told 2% of the population had sleep apnea and he always thought it was much higher. From the article,
Research has shown that sleep apnea is quite common in older adults, affecting as many as 53 percent of men and 26 percent of women. And many go undiagnosed, experts say.

I wish they would do further studies to determine if the cognitive decline can be reversed over a period of time with successful xPAP therapy.

I didn't see the program

Ever since I experienced all of the nasty symptoms of having severe OSA that I did, I've wondered if Alzheimer's wasn't in part untreated sleep apnea.

The memory issues I had scared me silly.

I wish they'd test patients showing signs of dementia/Alzheimer's as soon as there is a concern...

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff and I hope to see more research on the topic.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

My short term memory has had a marked decrease in the past couple of weeks; this latest news is very worrisome. I have f-ed up so much at work lately.
