Kinky?

Post by Madalot » Sat Apr 11, 2015 11:52 am

Has anyone else found that ALL the newer hoses never loose their "kink?"

I have ONE hose that is fabulous. The kinks are gone and no matter how I position it, it just lays there like a good, little hose should do. But my other hose (I rotate between washings) -- oy. The other night, I about yanked my humidifier off my nightstand trying to get that stupid thing to stop kinking, twisting and flipping up over my head!

Thankfully, another day or so and I'll rotate again, but all my new hoses are the same. Even the same brand as my good one now are made the same. They never loose their "kink" and drive me absolutely nuts.

I know there are all these devices for hose management, but the one hose is fine for me. I just move it where I want it and I'm good. But the newer ones with the seemingly permanent kink -- wow.

I've noticed that too.
Tempted to point a hairdryer at it.
Too scared to.
Happy Birthday!

I've seen it happy birthday on a number of hoses I've had, but the last one I got happy birthday was fine... it didn't have any kink at all... it was a 10 foot hose I got from either directhomemedical or cpap.com, I forget which.

oh, and,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Glad I'm not the only one who almost dethroned my machine yanking at the kinked hose. Have a great birthday my friend!

Dang I got sucked in by a click-bait topic-line. Got excited and then disappointed by a post about a misbehaving hose!

Happy birthday!
I'm workin' on it.

Happy Birthday ! You could try to give the hose a 10 minute soak in a pot of hot water (190 F ?) and then, hold it straight until it cools off. I think that might be less hazardous than applying heat from a hair dryer.

I've noticed that the Hibernite hoses (aftermarket heated hoses) are like that and have been for the last few years I've been using them. It's annoying but you develop strategies to cope with the kinks... not that you should have to. Yes, I've got a few plain old generic hoses stored in a closet and they were very supple after a few months of use.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

First off, Happy birthday to you, I do hope it was less about kinky hoses and more about enjoyable times with loved ones. Hugs to you.

I will chime in that I thought it was just me that had a kinky new hose. Yes the new one seems to retain its curl even after being uncurled for some time and out of its bag. I fight with getting the new one to just behave and not try to bonk me, even though I have it secured over my head. I am so glad to know that I am not alone in this. Thank you Madalot.

Many, many thanks for the birthday wishes that were in this thread.

Also, thanks for confirming what I suspected -- that you simply cannot get a good hose any longer. Even the ones made by the same manufacturer as my good one are now crap as well.

I can try and figure out where I got my last hose from, if you want, it has no kinks in it.

I don't remember off hand, but I spent a lot of time digging to try and find the hose with the smoothest bore I could find, to reduce hose resonance noises.

my *first* hose, in '09, was stiff and wouldn't straighten out till I ran hot water through it. this one was soft from the word go.

First off, I admit, the title caught my eye, and I wondered how long til Froggy popped in, when I realized it wasn't HER post. *snork*
Secondly, this reminds me of a chat PR and I had the other day about refrigerator seals and using a clothes dryer for a few minutes to warm them up so they're more flexible. If it's a basic, unheated hose, you might try it...or the hot water thing...or a hair dryer? If it's a heated hose, you're on your own, I won't advise there, it would come back to haunt me.
