Sending info for a Sleeyhead app wirelessly?

Post by slprrrr » Thu Apr 09, 2015 4:30 am

Would it be technically possible for a not-yet-designed Sleepyhead smartphone app to receive data from a CPAP machine wirelessly? For example, could it receive information from an attachable Respironics bluetooth modem, or a future built-in bluetooth modem like the one in the Z1 travel CPAP machine? Or could some other type of wireless transmitter be plugged into the same slot as the Respironics bluetooth modem, or in some slot on some other CPAP machine, which would send information wirelessly to a phone?

Alternatively, could a smartphone be connected to a CPAP machine in some way with some kind of cord so that the information would get sent to the phone automatically?

Basically, what is the feasibility of a non-proprietary way of getting info from a CPAP machine to a phone or computer without having to take out the SD card?

Have you used one in this way that you can recommend? It sounds awesome.

I just bought a toshiba flash air SD card. I'll report back after I get it working (hopefully).

the toshiba flashair and flashair ii *sticks tongue out at cathyf*, I don't currently use one because I haven't jumped through the hoops necessary to run sleepmaster on linux... but I've got one, and I've tinkered with it.... and they're neat cards.

Tatooedlady stuck hers in her new camera (*eyeroll* using something for what it was designed for) and seems to love it.. amazing her techy friends who hadn't heard of them... *takes picture* *waves tablet at friend* "SEEEE?? MAGIC!"

Make sure you buy a compatible flashair II card! I was hasty and bought a flashair I card because it was cheap only to find out it couldn't work because it only supports the FAT filesystem and 8.3 filenames while the cpap creates files with much longer names.

So go to the sleep master website and be sure that you buy a compatible card. I was able to return mine to B&H and buy a model that worked instead - for another $15. And now my cpap's memory card is up on my network - no more taking the card out.

In regards to an app, I don't really need or want to look at the sleepyhead data on the small phone screen - I want to zoom, pan, etc. on my 1920x1200 screen in the living room. And the wireless sdcard takes care of the remote access for us.

What size (how many GB) are you guys getting?

Any reason to get larger than 16 GB?

I'm using the 16GB which is basically overkill. Can't imagine using the 32GB version.

No.
16 GB is way more than is needed...in fact 8 GB is more than is really needed.
I don't think they make them any smaller that will do what needs to be done.
The regular SD cards without the wi fi thing...1 GB is sufficient but hard to find now. That will give you an idea just how little the data files are that actually goes on the card from the machines.

My advice is to get the cheapest flashair II card that you can find. I got mine from B&H Photo. It MUST be a model 2 because the model 1 only supports short (8.3) file names and the cpap machines use long file names.

The data takes up a very small amount of space, so price should be the main determining factor. Some day, when you have a cpap that doesn't need/fit it any more, you might want to use it in a camera or some other device.
