Sleepyhead Multiple Machine features

Post by AfibApnea » Wed Apr 01, 2015 4:29 pm

A while ago I’d complained about Sleepyhead not having the ability to… I was corrected by members who (obviously) knew more about the software than I.

So, rather than complaining, I’d like to ask if the following is possible in Sleepyhead (SleepyHead-OpenGL.exe, the latest, I believe).

I use a BiPAP ASV machine and a CPAP machine (on different nights of course!). I want to compare the results of the two machines by Overviewing groups of continuous days of each machine’s use.

In Sleepyhead, one can choose a group of continuous days by going into the Overview mode and, at the bottom of the screen, select: first the end date of the group, and then the start date of the group. [I have questions about this also, like is it possible to have those dates automatically default to the Start date (in my case 2013) of the data and the End date (e.g., last night)]

In Sleepyhead, in order to know what days to select one can go to the calendar and note that dates in black (type) are dates with no data and dates in blue type have CPAP associated data.

In Sleepyhead, the only way I know to know if a particular day’s data is relating to a particular machine one must go to the Daily mode, click on a blue type date, and read under the AHI reading on the left side of the window (the right side consists of charts) text that describes the machine. For example, on Feb 3, 2015 the text reads:
- Philips Respironics System One (60 Series)
- BiPAP autoSV AdvancedModel 960P - P12009737E1FC
- PAP Mode: ASV (Variable EPAP)
- Min EPAP 6.0 Max IPAP 16.6 PS 2.3-9.2 (cmH2O)
And on February 26 that area of text reads:
- Philips Respironics System One (60 Series)
- RemStar Auto with A-FlexModel 560P - P094670371FB2
- PAP Mode: APAP (Variable)
- Min 5 Max 8 (cmH2O)

I would like to be able to see in the calendar the days I’m using one machine and the days I’m using the other. (One way to easily accomplish this would be to allow the user to specify the color each machine displays. It could choose colors automatically, but that wouldn’t allow a person using say two CPAP machines and one BiPAP machine the ability to color all CPAP instances in one color and all BiPAP instances in another).

In Sleepyhead, Is there a way one can, over a continuous period of time, see which machine the data refers to?

My approach to solving the problem you describe would be to create two profiles (perhaps not necessary); export the data to a .csv file and copy it into Excel or another spreadsheet and add the machine type to the exported data (I name that worksheet "database"). Then I would isolate the data I was interested-in (AHI, FL index, Avg pressure, machine type whatever) in a separate "worksheet" that draws the data from the "database Worksheet". Each row of this worksheet would be a day of treatment. Whenever you wish you sort on the Machine type. Below this data you could include a line for minimum, maximum, average. These statistics could be segregated for each machine type as well as aggregated in totals. May sound complicated but once done it is very flexible and should accomplish what you wish.

Yes, I can see this would work. But it wouldn’t avail me of all Sleepyhead's fantastic charting capabilities. What I mainly want to do is compare the differences in ALL the charts between a consecutive segment of one machine’s output (say 5 days of the BiPAP ASV) vs the next consecutive segment of the other machine (the next 5 days of CPAP). I could get the Excel figures out of Sleepyhead or Encore, but it wouldn't be as readable or impressive as a set of charts.

The bigger questions I want to explore are:
1) Am I getting better treatment through my BiPAP ASV or my CPAP machine?
2) Do I need my (more expen$ive) BiPAP machine or is my (completely paid for) CPAP machine sufficient?
3) Are the results significantly different, and if so, why?

Also there's the issue of bringing this information to the RTs who treat me. There’s no question that seeing the data displayed the way Sleepyhead does is more readable and more persuasive (no RT is going to spend the time interpreting the spreadsheet results of someone she's convinced knows less than she) than handing them a number matrix.

Too bad…

If worse comes to worse, I can just go day-by-day (in Daily mode) figuring out which machine was in use and then use that information to structure the Overview settings.

I understand. But if the graphics are the more important for display then perhaps just creating the two users - one for each machine, will allow you to have the collections of identifiable graphics you want. Best of luck

I have been using Sleepyhead with both of my machines.
The reports list both machines. You can tell which machine I was using on which night.
It is interesting to see the different methods Resmed and DeVilbiss use to sense and respond to OSA events.

How does it do this?

This is the way I thought was the only way to get this information (see first post in this thread).

Please describe how to do (print or view on screen) a two week report with all the charts and know, by looking at the report, which days one machine was used and which days the other was used?

Thanks
