Am I am sleep swimming? Holding my breath?

Post by WildMtnHoney » Wed Apr 01, 2015 6:59 am

I know that sounds weird, but I used to sleep walk a lot as a kid, and I noticed something today. I take a DEEP breath before my centrals. Isn't that silly? It makes me wonder if I'm dreaming that I'm swimming, and I'm purposefully (kinda) holding my breath? I looked around on google a bit and didn't find any sleep graphs that showed this deep breath before centrals, so I'm just curious (and well, sorta being silly, it struck me a as funny at least!)

Here's a little hint for using Imgur so that we can see the large version of your image.

In the box of addresses on the right...scroll down to the bottom and look for "large thumbnail"...click on large thumbnail and all the addresses in the little boxes will change a little.
Go to the last line of url address choices and copy that last line after you have clicked on large thumbnail
then paste that copied address into the box of your text.

By using large thumbnail and including that last line of addresses then we can click on the image if we need to see it up close and larger.
Right now we can't see your image clearly because it is a bit small and we can't make it larger.

From what I can see, it appears that you didn't breathe for 13 seconds. No biggie. I would suggest looking under the "Events" tab, on the left, and it will display the number of seconds that each event occurred.

Thanks!

Most of my events - obstructive and clear - are short. Last night I had 14 of each recorded (although when I scrolled through, there were some that appeared to be over 10 seconds that were not marked? who knows!). Most are 14 seconds or less. Only a handful are 18+, with the longest of each being one obstructive that was merely 26 seconds, and on clear that was 16.

I'm mostly giggling at the fact that I take a big, deep breath, then don't breath for 10ish seconds in my sleep-- seems weird to me!

I couldn't remember if I told you or someone else that little trick...no biggie though.
Sometimes we don't need larger image and sometimes we do.

That is a big breath right before the no air flow....I am more inclined to think it is related to arousal or movement in bed since that big breath preceded it. Like maybe taking a bit of a breath and then turning over in bed. Often we hold our breath when changing positions in bed and don't even realize we are holding our breath.

Hmmm - maybe. Except I sleep w/my legs up on a big ramp pillow for veinous issues, so I don't really move much unless I'm fully awake. Nearly all of my clear air way apneas look like that, too, except the ones that are similar to, but too shallow to be CSB. <shrug>

On the bright side, all of the apneas are short, right!

It could still be a post arousal hold your breath even if you don't turn over in bed.
And it could be from an arousal that you don't remember.

Regardless...yes, they are short lived and rare and not worth worrying about. This is where I say that when I see stuff like this that I just can't come up with a clear cut answer to what I see and it's rare and short lived..."I shrug my shoulders and move on".
