What level of leaks is too high?

Post by englandsf » Sun Mar 29, 2015 12:59 pm

Allergy season here in Texas and I am seeing SH track a few multi minute long periods of 35-40 l/m leaks on my S9/P10 combo. Total time above leak threshold is hitting 5-7% but 90% level is below 24 l/m. (is that 90 or 95 for Resmed?) I really don't want to try and find another mask, should I be worried or wait to see if it's temporary?

I can't see where you stated how many nights you're referring to, but I wouldn't sweat it yet. Like I keep saying, this therapy is all about "averages". Could be any number of reasons for the leakage.

Are you sleeping well otherwise or waking up often from the leaks?

ResMed is okay (gives you Mr Smiley face) as long as you don't spend more than 30% of the night in large leak.
Now while I will let a little leak slide 30% is pushing what I would let slide every night. I wouldn't be comfortable with that much every night. Once in a blue moon night's are a different story and I just ignore them.

My own personal line in the sand for what it might be worth...I try to keep large leak time in the single digit % but I also evaluate how far into large leak I went along with how much time there and how often does it go there.
Since past experience has shown me that for me and my machine that the AHI is worth trusting up to leaks over 35 L/min before it starts getting iffy I don't really sweat the time where I might have gone to 28 L/min or so.
Now if I have a good chunk of time at 40 L/min that's a different story but those times are rare for me.

Thanks Pugsy, that's my inclination... Not waking me at all - and the highest is 7% with the longest period being about 10 mins. Usually 3-5 incidents of a few mins each make up the entire leak time. I feel I'm sleeping well and am rested - but maybe I am mouth breathing some of the time(getting very dry mouth occasionally but not EVERY time). My average for March is about 2.6%, Feb about 1,7%, prior months <1.
