Six weeks in: some firsts

Post by jon k » Sat Mar 28, 2015 8:20 pm

Six weeks of CPAP use, and in the past two nights I've experienced the following for the first time:

1. Turned over in the night at some point without waking up to make sure the hose didn't get tangled.
2. Slept through the entire night without having to take off the mask to massage my face
3. Slept through the entire night without turning the machine off.
4. Woke up wondering if my mask was still on - it was.
5. Slept through my alarm; woke up relaxed.

So it looks like I actually CAN get used to this thing...

Great!! Before you know it, you won't be able to fall asleep if you aren't wearing the mask!

I am at the six week mark as well and am experiencing many of the same things. The first two- three weeks were quite dicey and I wasn't convinced I could get used to a cpap. Weeks 4-5 were my breakthrough and I am now seeing great cognitive/physical benefits including increased productivity, mental clarity, and generally stronger coping skills. My husband has noticed a difference in my moods. I've accepted this is now part of the deal. And I am actually kind of proud of myself for perservering.

Congrats to you and all the best as you continue with your therapy. We are lucky to have addressed our sleep issues and moved beyond the initial challenges. Best, Eve
