Snoring with Full Mask on, low leak rate on graph.
With my full face mask on, a ResMed F10, I am snoring loud enough to drive my wife out of the room. I checked my leak rate on SleepyHead, and from what I can tell it was low. Does this indicate that my pressure is set too low at 9? If so, can I either increase my pressure on my own, or maybe switch the setting to auto rather than fixed?
I'm still new to this, just finished my first week on cpap.

But, if you're snoring alot, I wouldn't switch to Auto mode......unless you like LOTS of pressure and having the mask blown off your face and lots of leaks to go with it. ( 9 cm. would feel like "nothing" )
Personally, I'd bump it up one centimeter at a time and for a few nights with each setting (keep checking your data).
And, if you're not already, try doing some nasal cleansing before bedtime. Nasal congestion will exacerbate the "snore" numbers.

or maybe, the auto would bump the pressure just enough to stop the snores, just like it's designed to do, and you have no way of knowing if that'd be 1, 2, or 10 cm of pressure.Wulfman... wrote: But, if you're snoring alot, I wouldn't switch to Auto mode......unless you like LOTS of pressure and having the mask blown off your face and lots of leaks to go with it.

Pressure increases can easily be done in straight pressure, and without some of the possible consequences.

aside from the fact that it's physically impossible for an autoset, (at 20cm) bilevel, (at 25cm) or even a NIV machine (at 30cm) to cause a mask to be "blown off your face"....Wulfman... wrote:Because I've seen the "reality" in many, many reports........"Forewarned is forearmed".palerider wrote:or maybe, the auto would bump the pressure just enough to stop the snores, just like it's designed to do, and you have no way of knowing if that'd be 1, 2, or 10 cm of pressure.Wulfman... wrote: But, if you're snoring alot, I wouldn't switch to Auto mode......unless you like LOTS of pressure and having the mask blown off your face and lots of leaks to go with it.

Depending on the strap tension adjustments.....it doesn't take much to keep a mask on at 9 cm. Crank it up to 12, 15 or more and it can get a little (or a lot) "leaky". I can tell quite a bit of difference with even three extra centimeters.palerider wrote:aside from the fact that it's physically impossible for an autoset, (at 20cm) bilevel, (at 25cm) or even a NIV machine (at 30cm) to cause a mask to be "blown off your face"....Wulfman... wrote:Because I've seen the "reality" in many, many reports........"Forewarned is forearmed".palerider wrote:or maybe, the auto would bump the pressure just enough to stop the snores, just like it's designed to do, and you have no way of knowing if that'd be 1, 2, or 10 cm of pressure.Wulfman... wrote: But, if you're snoring alot, I wouldn't switch to Auto mode......unless you like LOTS of pressure and having the mask blown off your face and lots of leaks to go with it.

of course it's more challenging to contain leaks at 15 than 9. I don't believe that was ever in question. it's still physically impossible for .28 psi to cause that "blown off your face" effect you dragged out. leaks? sure. *cough* mask liners *cough*.Wulfman... wrote:Depending on the strap tension adjustments.....it doesn't take much to keep a mask on at 9 cm. all of which is *completely and totally beside the point*.
if it takes 15cm for the snoring to be reduced to the point that his wife doesn't flee the room, it doesn't matter whether that's determined over nearly a month of inching up the pressure, or one night on auto, well, except for having his wife in with him sooner when on auto. (supposing needing to go to 15, that'd be 6 increases, and "a few days" = 4, that'd be 24 days before your proposal would be done)
up to you, Austringer

I am going to set it on auto. I think it will help me evaluate where I am a little quicker. If I run into issues with my mask, or feel that I am having a hard time with the pressure, I can always go back and take a more conservative approach. Well, turns out I'm jumping the gun a little with "I am going to set it on auto." I've been searching the internet to find instructions on how to get into the "clinical" menu, so far I have not been able to find anything.
Does anybody have a to instructions?

scroll down to section three, about 'request manual by email' and request:
ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet, AutoSet for Her, Elite & CPAP (combined manual)
that'll get you all the sekretz
the tl;dr answer is 'hold down home, and the knob for three seconds' but, do get the manual.

I won't know until it's posted, but hopefully I got the open quote right this time, thank you very much for all of the information! I ordered the manual, and will make sure to read the whole thing. In the meantime I will not not be able to resist taking a peak inside the "forbidden setup." What is it about feeling like you're doing something you're not really supposed to that is so much fun??palerider wrote: go here: http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

as to your question... I don't know, but I do know what you're talking about
it's even more fun if your DME or doctor has a conniption fit. (so I've heard) *lol*
