Help Needed Falling and Staying Asleep and Hypernite Hose qu

Post by Guest » Fri Mar 27, 2015 4:41 pm

I’ve been on Cpap 10 weeks now. On paper, I am a success. AHI was 58 pre-CPAP, now it’s always below 2 (lowest was .25) but sleep isn't restorative. I'm sleepy at bedtime but have trouble falling asleep, wake up 4-5 times during the night and have trouble returning to sleep. Pre-Cpap, I fell asleep within 10 minutes and slept through the night. I saw the sleep doc a few days ago and his best advice was to try Rozeram or to consider getting a dental appliance. He said I should have adjusted to CPAP in a month and was not interested in troubleshooting and making CPAP work. The DME hasn’t returned my email or calls.
Initally, I had mask, headgear, pillow and hose comfort issues that are pretty much resolved. I tried CPAP mode to see if fluctuating pressures affected things but it made no difference. Now I think cold air in my nose and face is waking and keeping me up sort of like when I can’t sleep when my feet are cold. Initially, the DME sent me a Hypernite heated hose which helped but doesn’t seem to stay warm anymore. It does not have a temperature setting or on-off switch. Has anyone had experience with the Hypernite hose or know of other hose options for the PR? The instructions say not to put a hose cozy on it. Would the heated tube humidifier offer more comfort?
I welcome suggestions to sleep thru the night.

Hello and I'm glad that therapy is working for you as far as your AHI goes. Have you tried heated humidifier for your cPAP? You may want to try it. Helps with dry mouth as well and keeps the air moist and warm.

Climateline hose is only for ResMed machines.

If you are using a 60 Series Respironics machine then you don't need a new humidifier to use the heated hose that the 60 series machine has available.
You only need to upgrade your existing humidifier.
Not sure why your DME didn't offer the real heated hose that works best with your machine instead of the Hybernite. There's an upgrade kit that includes the special lid, the heated hose and the special power supply needed to make your existing humidifier work with the Respironics heated hose.
I would get you the link to the product but I can't seem to pull it up at cpap.com but if you go to cpap.com and do a search for "upgrade kit" you will see it for $75. Your DME has access to this same kit.

Though the hybernite should be cranking out a lot of warm air...the check to make sure it is turn it on and let it blow for about 30 minutes (no longer) with the hose under the bed covers and it should get really warm if it is working properly...uncomfortably warm and that's why they say don't use a hose cozy on the Hybernite.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did some more research on this last night and learned the climateline is not compatible for PR machines and found the upgrade kit for the PR machine as you suggested Pugsy. It's frustrating that the sleep doctor (who uses CPAP himself- Resmed) is unaware of the the upgrade or heated tube humidifier for PR machines and ordered a heated hose only after I learned and complained about rainout and that the DME sent me the Hibernate instead of the upgrade kit and won't swap it out. I've already met my deductible this year but they say it won't be covered and so I'll have to buy it myself online. Last night was so much better - it was the cold air bothering me as I thought. My son lowers the thermostat at night and it turns out he was setting it to 63 when we used to keep it at 65. So, last night it was 65 again and I made a short hose cozy from fleece fingerless gloves and put a folded tissue under the silicone part of the P10 mask that touches my upper lip. Those changes made all the difference. I switched to the P10 as the headgear from the wisp and nuance were uncomfortable but since the plastic is lighter did notice that the short hose gets colder than the others.
