I've never heard that. Do you have a link?JV1967 wrote:... that untreated OSA can lead to onset and or other centrals? I saw this online.
The connection/correlation doesn't sound "logical".

Re: Is it true?
In all the research I been doing over the last 8 weeks on central sleep apnea I haven't read any correlation with untreated OSA
Re: Is it true?
I guess you could make the argument that untreated OSA->low O2->brain damage->central apnea.
Sounds possible, but tenuous. Maybe someone has some data to support that idea. Can you come up with a link to where you heard that?

I should have posted the link here. I cleaned out the cache with Ccleaner, last night. I'll try to find it again.

I remember someone on a forum saying this had happened to them because they let it go so long.archangle wrote:I guess you could make the argument that untreated OSA->low O2->brain damage->central apnea.

Re: Is it true?
In my quest to understand why I have CompSA, my doc told me this is likely. I am 48, relatively healthy, never had any trauma, and show no signs of heart problems. I did, however, let my severe apnea go untreated for about a decade.
I am no expert but in looking at my data, I do not see a correlation between higher pressures and increased centrals.
Take the source with a grain of salt but here is what Wikipedia says on the subject:
Some people with sleep apnea have a combination of both types. When obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is severe and longstanding, episodes of central apnea sometimes develop.

Thanks. Unfortunately, that section of the article has no citations, so it's just something some unknown person on the internet wrote. Doesn't make it wrong, though.Uncle Flapp wrote:Take the source with a grain of salt but here is what Wikipedia says on the subject:

Re: Is it true?
Here's my anecdata:
I have pretty severe OSA (untreated AHI over 70) and probably had it for quite a while, but it was--and is--all obstructive. Very few centrals, generally when falling asleep.
Take it for what you will.

Totally agree hence the salt. I also heard about it from my sleep doc and sure hope he isn't using Wikipedia as a source of record for his practice.archangle wrote:Thanks.
