A reminder to check plug every night.

Post by Logies101 » Fri Mar 06, 2015 8:04 pm

The other night I went to sleep and woke up about 20 minutes or so later to my machine being OFF. I was struggling to breathe and it woke me. It took me a bit to figure out what in heck was going on. Apparently the plug wasn't pushed all the way in and somehow worked it's way loose. Not good, so I'm making a mental note to double check it every night. Just wanted to post this in hopes of preventing it happening to someone else.

"the plug"?

I guess one could just assume ALL the plugs should likely be firmly attached.

I have had my current machine in the same place since I got it almost a year ago. None of the plugs have ever come loose.

Do you have pets that are allowed in the bedroom?
Little paws stepping on or tripping over cords can have a cumulative effect.

That's what I was thinking Chunkyfrog, actually BIG paws, my golden retriever. He's not really allowed in there but he manages to nudge the door open sometimes.

Just be glad you don't have the cats from Hell that I have. Long story there that you probably weren't here to enjoy.

You might look at using a power strip/surge protector if you are plugging your machine directly into the wall socket which sometimes can easily be disturbed.
That's what I did with mine for 2 reasons...one being that it's harder for the plug to come out of a surge protector and the other is simply to protect the machine from potential surges.

If any of your fur babies are chewers, invest in GFCI outlets.
It could spare you a lot of heartache.

When we visited my mother-in-law the electrical outlets in her older home were very loose. It was hard to keep things plugged in and the slightest movement or the weight of the cord could cause the plug to come out very easily.

A power strip with surge protection is a really good idea. I would hate to lose my machine to a power surge, and the strip is more accessible to me since the plug is hidden behind furniture. I used to have a separate hose heater, and so the power strip traveled. Now, the machine, humidifier and heated hose are all integrated. What a world!

Those receptacles have failed. Are even a human safety issue. Must be replaced.

Check my avatar.... he waits for me to get up, and snuggles in bed next to my wife.

My border collie jumped on my chest hard one night. For the life of me I was like what the heck happened, moment I woke up she just went back to sleep. CPAP data had four minutes of no breathing (Central Apnea) follow by a big gasp of air.... good doggie!

Huge fire hazard. If the plug feels warm, replace those outlets!
