14 months with water distiller

Post by VikingGnome » Thu Mar 05, 2015 11:43 pm

I bought the H2O Labs counteract distiller 14 months ago. I use distilled water for my VPAP, room humidifier, and drinking. My water distiller is still working great. No residue as I have faithfully cleaned it after each use. Occasionally I use anhydrous citric acid as a soak if it looks like something is starting to build up. I distill 1-2 gallons a day and always have a 3-4 gallons ready in the refrigerator. I estimate I have distilled at least 800 gallons. It costs me 18 cents a gallon for electricity. So I has cost me $144 for 800 gallons of distilled water. If purchased from store at 89 cents per gallon at Walmart, it would have cost me $720. So it has paid for itself 5x what I paid to buy it. Great investment. H2O Labs distillers have 2 year warranty, so I have 10 more months on my warranty.

I drink distilled water exclusively so do not buy bottled, purified, or filtered water. I love the pure taste of freshly distilled water and so do my pets.

I've been wondering about buying a distiller myself, they are about $150 here.

Thanks for your post, you certainly have saved money

Note that she's using it for drinking water, not just for CPAP water, so she's using a lot more distilled water.

I've always sort of wanted a water still myself, but haven't ever gotten around to it.

There's some concern about drinking distilled water all the time, but I think it's a bit overblown. It probably depends on how nasty your tap water is, too.

For drinking water, you might consider getting re-mineralizing drops. They puts back all the minerals your body usually gets from regular water. I get little bottles of it from my local health food store. They are cheap and last forever.

What happens if you don't use distilled water? Just curious.

If you dump out the water and clean every day, not much. If you just top up the water, or use it for multiple days, depending on how much gunk there is in your tap water, it may crust up, get stinky, or grow mold, germs, etc. in the tank.

Distilled water - makes horrible coffee and tea for some reason.

Also tastes horrible compared to our well water.
