Any ideas how to keep Breeze nasal pillow off under nose?

Post by gsbuck » Thu Mar 05, 2015 6:50 pm

I am trying to figure out why I cannot fall asleep wearing the Breeze mask with nasal pillows.. Have discovered that the part of Breeze that holds the nasal pillows rests on area above upper lip but below nose and irritates the skin. Any suggestions how to keep that part away from skin?

Adjust your angle by twisting the screw near the exhalation port.

Have you tried the P10s?

Englandsf: yes, I have tried the p10 with nasal pillows but still cannot fall asleep. Will try again tonight.

I have been using this headgear for years. There are a couple of adjustments that aren't very obvious. I always put it on by "rotating" it over my face. I never want to bend or put any pressure on the serrated piece that connects the pillow assembly to the headgear. This has always been the weakest spot for me. Most often, it breaks at the attachment section under the serrations. I have also had them break at the pivot for the nosepiece.

After you have it on your head, experiment with extending and retracting the back of the headgear. This will vary the pressure and angle of the nosepiece. I have also adjusted the nosepiece angle by putting small objects of different size right above the nosepiece pivot - in between the small hose and the plastic piece behind it. This changes the angle between the pillows and the nostrils. Also, moving the serrated piece in and out of the headgear can change the angle slightly. It doesn't look like much of a difference but you can feel it adjust the amount of pressure.

I do use the velcro straps on the sides but I keep them relatively loose. For me, the breeze pretty much just floats over my head and I only feel it on the nostrils and back of the head. You could also put a small pad, tissue, piece of cloth, etc. in between the plastic piece and your upper lip. Heck, try sticking a bandaid on it so the bandaid touches your upper lip instead of the plastic.

Have you been using the breeze for a while or is it relatively new to you? I have found that the breeze gives me the best seal at my higher pressures of 13-20. Good luck, and let us know if you find something that works for you.

Yaconsult: I was unable to figure out how to adjust the back of the headgear. I tried using a wadded tissue to help the angle of the nasal pillows and it seemed to work for a while. Problem when it started to slip out. Took it off after an hour or so. Thanks foe your suggestions tho

The curved plastic piece that goes against the back of your head can be slid up and down on the metal piece that it is attached to. So hold the plastic piece in one hand and pull on the metal strap that comes out of the top. You will notice that there are little holes in the metal band - these are the "stops" for the different adjustment positions. It is not at all obvious that this piece moves - that is why I pointed it out.

The next adjustment is the plastic piece where it attaches to the headgear on top. This one slides in and out - you probably already know about this one as it is the most obvious.

Finally, the angle can be adjusted at the pivot by putting something behind the plastic where the small host attaches. By putting different small objects in there, you can change the rotational angle. In an emergency, I have used the detachable top from a Bic pen.

Those three adjustments are the only ones I know about. But you can also experiment with the velcro-attached side straps. There are slots in a couple of different places on each end where they can be attached. I like to keep them a bit loose.

Please let me know if you are still unable to find all the adjustments and I'll try to find some graphics or take some pictures, if necessary.

You might cut and stick a small piece of moleskin on the area of the breeze that touches the sore spot. (Available at pharmacy or where foot care products are sold )

Thanks! I assume this worked for you. How did you keep it from moving or falling out after a while?
