Rain Out solutions
Rain Out solutions
I am officially getting rained on 2 nights a week. I have heard about rain out but I do not see a clear solution. Any links or tips?

Re: Rain Out solutions
- Use a hose cover - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/snuggl ... cover.html
- Place your machine below the level of the mattress so condensation will run back into the humidifier tank.
What setting are you using for the humidifier? You may have it too high.

In addition to what ChicagoGranny has said:
1) Are you using a heated hose? If you are, you might want to increase the temperature setting on the hose, as long as the increased temperature doesn't make you uncomfortable. If you are not using a heated hose and a heated hose is available for your machine, then switching to a heated hose should help.
2) Hang the hose in such a way that as much of the hose as possible is hanging down on the machine side of the highest point on the hose. Any water that condenses in the hose on the machine side will run down hill and back into the machine.
3) Run the hose under the cover and next to your body instead of outside the covers. Yes, the means that you can't hang the hose. But your body heat will keep the air in the hose nice and warm and that will minimize rainout.
4) If you are using a PR System One, make sure the humidifier is NOT set to the "C" (Classic) mode.
5) When you fill the humidifier up each night, make sure that you don't overfill it. If you have water left in the humidifier tank in the morning, you might find it useful to cut back a bit on how full you fill the tank even if you are NOT overfilling it.
6) If you keep your bedroom really really cold and can stand the idea of increasing the heat by a couple of degrees, turning up your house's thermostat may help. Not everyone can sleep in a warm bedroom (I can't), but for those who can or enjoy sleeping in a warmer bedroom, this can be a good way to try to minimize or eliminate rainout problems.

Re: Rain Out solutions
Options depend on several possible factors. See this thread 2 and 3rd posts.
viewtopic/t94035/Pugsys-Pointers-3Deali ... -road.html
Depends on your machine (is it heated hose capable) and where the condensation is occurring.

Re: Rain Out solutions
I use a SnuggleHose cover - works perfectly. One tip though - go ahead and spend the extra $3 to get the zippered version - so much easier to get off and on!

Why would you want to take it off?ohwhatanight wrote: the zippered version - so much easier to get off and on!
Re: Rain Out solutions
I have spent 10 years dealing with rain out. Last week I got a new CPAP with a heated hose. Even at MAX humidity setting I get no rain out.
If your CPAP does not support a heated hose and the other mentioned suggestions don't help I saw a heated hose retrofit kit which adds a heated hose to a non capable CPAP. The kit came with a separate power supply for the heated hose.
P.S. You take the hose cover off to wash it!... hence the zipper.

I too have been using one of these covers for several years and it does work quite well. If used along with some of the other suggestions above, I think it will end your problem.ohwhatanight wrote:I use a SnuggleHose cover - works perfectly.
