Has anyone ever heard of or used a salt pipe inhaler? It is supposed to help with lung related problems.

Re: A Little OT
You are missing the opening url bracket and that's why the link doesn't work.
Try doing what I do....copy the url address and then just paste it in the body of your post and don't try to insert it using the url bracket code thing from the forum editor.

I'd want to see links to those clinical trials, who did them and who published them and when. Then I'd ask a pulmonologist what they thought. Somehow the idea sounds scary, but you never know. I wouldn't try it out before knowing a lot more from 'trusted' sources... not testimonials from who knows who on the net.

Re: A Little OT
Some of us have been adding a small amount of non iodized salt to our humidifier water after testing revealed that contrary to theory with some machines more than just water vapor is released from the humidifier. I discussed this with a pulmonologist along with the amounts used (1/8 tsp per liter of water) and he had no issues with it.
There are a couple of down sides to this. If you spill the salt water into your machine it is more corrosive than spilling distilled water into the machine. Another thing is that being free from congestion makes you forget the discomfort that congestion brings and you could end up a little less empathetic with those that suffer from congestion.

I've been doing a little more research on this and found that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation funded a study using 'salt water' . Seems it is used to decrease mucus in the lungs.
