Plugged Ear

Post by souffoue » Wed Mar 04, 2015 12:21 pm

Hello

I am a new CPAP user (since last Friday). I use the pillow mask. Last night I woke up with my left ear plugged. I presume this has something to do with the machine/mask as I haven't had this problem before (except maybe when swimming and flying). It's driving me crazy as it is still plugged. Any advice on how to unplug my ear or do I need to see my Dr? Thanks so much!!

As long as there is no heat or pain, you might try a nasal decongestant, spray or oral.
If there is hotness or pain, see the doctor! Infection can be a cause of hearing loss, mine in particular.
Any connection to cpap is either pure coincidence or very, very rare.

If it doesn't resolve itself shortly I would still see the doctor even if it isn't painful because it might be something as simple as wax that could easily be removed and there's no sense in going around feeling like that and if it isn't wax then the doctor needs to be aware of it anyway since it won't resolve itself.
I have had it happen but only very briefly and it's normally relieved by doing what I would do in an airplane (big yawns work great for me) but if I couldn't get it relieved I would see a doctor even if it didn't hurt because it is so damned annoying.
