Nose irritaion from nasal pillows

Post by VoodooMP » Mon Mar 02, 2015 11:28 am

Hi all. I'm new here and I'm looking for a little guidance. I've been using my cpap for a week now and it seems to be working fine. I use the ResMed nasal pillows and it seems to make one nostril sore. I loosened the straps thinking maybe it was too tight. That made it a little better but, it still is sore enough to wake me. Any ideas?

Just went through the same irritation over the past 2 weeks while getting used to my new P10 nasal pillows.
Some use a lotion developed for breastfeeding mothers. I just rode it out until the sensitive skin toughened up.

Your call, we all have different tolerance levels for pain. I could sleep through mine but upon wakening the nostrils were sore and raw. It will pass, ... love the pillows and the low leak rates.

Use a lanolin based lotion nipple cream for nursing mothers. Do not use anything petroleum based.

If you're using P10 try bigger cushions - they move less.

6 ears ago I had the same issue when I got my first nasal pillows (Mirage Swift II). I had to go back to my previous nasal mask for a couple of night to let my nose heal. Then I would use the nasal pillows for a couple of nights and switch back again. It took a couple of weeks but my nose healed and toughened up.

I just switched to a P10 mask (using the large pillows). I am having the same problem with raw nostrils because of the different geometry of the pillows. Last night I switched back to my Mirage Swift II pillows and my nostrils are much better this morning.

If you have another mask I would give your nostrils a chance to heal by using it. Your nose will let you know of its dissatisfaction if you don't give it a day or two to heal.
