Post by cliftonjones198 » Sun Mar 01, 2015 10:11 am

I have 2 res system one machines.. I have been using them for 2 years.. normally I run out of water about wake up time.. no drive mouth.. The last few months.. my water runs out within three hours on a middle setting.. I have changed mask 5 times.. no leaks there.. no hose leaks.. held hand over end of hose.cant hear no internal leaks.. it's drying me out awful... any ideas??

Where do you live? How dry is the air where you live?
What pressure are you using?
Does your machine report data? Specifically leak data? If so, is it reporting anytime in large leak territory.
Which System One machine...model number? If you don't know the model number it is a 3 digit number on a little silver sticker on the bottom of the blower unit...might have DS, REF or P in front or behind the 3 digits.
What model mask are you using?
What is drying out...mouth, nose?

The System One machines shouldn't be using up all the water in just 3 hours at the middle setting of 3. Something is wrong somewhere.
Is this happening with both of your machines?

Ones a 760p... ones a 560p.. I live in North texas. But something has changed drastically. . I have tried different mask and nose pillows..The leak test all shows normal.. pressures are 7 to 12.. it dries me out nose and throat and mouth.. completely lost.. I keep thinking I've covered everything.

Heated hose or non heated hose?

I assume 2 machines and that means 2 different humidifiers?? and the problem is the same with both humdifiers?

Do you by any chance use a fireplace or wood heat in your home?

Yes two different humidifiers..non heated hose.. where I live it's been 75 degrees one week.. and 20 the next.. no change that I can tell.. I know it points to massive leak.. but can't locate nothing.. only thing I found today that I haven't checked.. is a leaking water tub that leaks after being heated up.. This started getting bad about four months ago.. and has continued getting worse..

Air temperature doesn't reflect ambient air humidity.

Are you saying that both water chambers have developed a leak?

Or are you saying you haven't checked for it?
That really would be self evident if there was water in the humidifier that you could see or feel when you remove the chamber.

Are you using wood heat or a fireplace?
Can you go someplace and get a barometer that will report the ambient humidity in your house to see how dry it is in the house?

Yes I have tested humidity.. I have a expensive pressure.. barometric.. humidity. .tester I use for tuning sprint car injection.. nothing is out of the ordinary. . Plus I have traveled lots of places and nothing changes.. The leak thing I was grasping at straws.. no noticeable wetness ..

Have you tried switching over to Classic Mode? Do you know about Classic Mode?
That would eliminate the machine using the humidity sensor in the machine (just in case it was malfunctioning).
Though to be honest to have 2 machine malfunction at the same time in the same way would be highly unlikely.
I have used my PR S1 machine at the default "new system one humidification" mode at at setting of 5 and it doesn't come close to using a whole tank of water after 8 hours of use. In fact I found it to be a little too dry and this was even in the winter when the air is typically on the dry side and we would expect more water to be used.

To use Classic Mode you have to go into the clinical setup menu area and turn off the "new system one humidification" so that the letter "C" is in front of the humidity selected in the setup menu.

I used to have the same problem with running out of water (about the same 3 hour period, if I recall). I bought a room humidifier and placed it near my machine. I haven't run out of water during the night since (close, thought).

My PRS one runs out of water almost every night. But I don't check it until I get up after 7 to 9 hours of sleep. So I don't know if it runs out in 3 hours or 6 or 7.
The humidifier also seems to collect some white flackey stuff that never happened with my Resmed. I use th same RO water in both.

Welcome. Please fill in the equipment on your profile.

Are you using software to check your data? If not, you should download SleepyHead and use it to read the data on your SD card.

You're probably developing a mask leak sometime during the night. It won't necessarily show up in the leak numbers on the display. SleepyHead will show a graph of your leak data all night long.

There's info on SleepyHead in the useful links in my signature line below.

It sounds as if Texas is about like Alabama. The air will be saturated with humidity on some nights, with nearly no humidity on others. In my experience, some nights I use little water, other nights I have uses three tankfuls. Many on here with swear with a vengeance that you have leaks, etc. etc. but I personally think is because relative humidity changes so drastically here in the south from day to day.

I did come up with a solution that works for me, and provides three times the water capacity of the stock tank on the PR machines. It may not look "pretty" but it serves the purpose it was designed for. Here is a link to that thread. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=103558&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
